This is the anniversary of the 1953 tornado that hit downtown Waco and destroyed hundreds of businesses and killed more than 100 people.

There is a display of photographs taken at the scene then now at a local arboretum - I may go there tomorrow. The big 50th anniversary is next year, so maybe there will be something noteworthy going on then. Legend has it the path of the tornado was the same route taken by a KKK lynch mob a few years earlier. Waco has a crazy history. Apparently the new mural in the courthouse features a prominent noose and is quite controversial. I'll have to take a picture of that next week.
