And when I pulled in my driveway, after looking at my dogs, I saw my tulips were in bloom....mostly all yellow ones so far---there must be 30 or more of them...and only 3 red ones in bloom!
Alas, my irises don't even have stems yet!!
Oh, the lilac bush near my front door is starting to bud out, too!!
Oh....when we made the dash over to So-Cal on the way back home, we drove by our old Western White House, in Corona. Elegant old plantation sort of home...the doctor and his wife had installed wrought iron fencing around the front yard....and they had removed all the lilac bushes!!! Just planted grass in that corner planter. However, along the very wide double sidewalk from the public sidewalk up to the stairs leading to the columns and balcony, they had planted rose trees--old time looking roses. It appears the city had removed virtually every willow tree from Grand Boulevard--a 3 mile circular boulevard--but there was 1 left at the corner by the old house. Daughter and I were so happy to see that.
We also drove on the side street to look at the side and rear yards--and mainly to make sure the old stained glass window was still there and still intact. They had planted a lot of rose bushes in the back yard, pulled out a couple of the avocado trees and planted a tall hedge around the rear yard and planted roses inside that area.
The house looked like this was the year for painting--at least it was due, but all in all Deni and I were really pleased with what we saw.
I refused to go by the Spanish home we had for fear that the area had gone to hell...we really had put a lot into that home with the courtyard in the front and all the landscaping, fountains, tilework, wroughtiron work, etc.....Deni was through there about 10 years ago and she wasn't real happy when she came back from the visit then, so I didn't want to see anything worse than she had described.
