I am not suggesting that it be ignored or covered up and it is definitely a problem for the church, however all the hype makes it sound as if the vast majority of Catholic priests are homosexual pedophiles and that just isn't the case. It is wrong that so many who are innocent will have to suffer because of the guilt of the few.

I suspect the number of pedophile priests is probably lower than the population at large. Where the church set themselves up is in the way it was handled, especially Cardinal Law.

The sources within the church admit that a majority of the clergy and the vast majority of younger priests are homosexual. The Boston Diocese has already turned over 10% of their priests in to the District Attorney as pedophiles. That is a just the ones found so far. That rate is 5 times the rate found among teachers or other denominations clergy.

Do you realize the good will the Church has lost in the last 20 years? A generation ago most non Catholics might not care for the Church, but they regarded priests generally as Bing Crosby in 'Going My Way'. For the last 20 years non Catholics have regrded Priests as predatory homosexuals until proved otherwise.

I have half a dozen nieces and younger second cousins who have married Cathoolics and converted. Now they are all having major family fights about getting the children out of the Church before it is too late. They just assume that their children will be molested if they don't get them out.

The Cardinal's statement that Serious Serial pedophiles will be thrown out is not going to help. They are saying that the first Altar Boy is free. Every priest gets to rape one kid as one of the perks of office.
