An interesting point discussed in that article was the question of why the Indians didn't have ANY unknown diseases to give back to the Europeans.

Part of that was a lower initial population density, diseases would burn out (run out of unexposed hosts) and not be able to carry on to future generations.

There is still controversy about whether Syphilis is a New World or Old World disease.

It is my understanding that that was the affliction of Henry VIII that caused his sterility.
