Palo...I was wondering when you were going to show up....its so exciting now, with at least one baby birdie...tho all I have seen so far is the cracked shell, but am patient...soon enough we will get to see the baby...

Helga did something like that once...one day I heard my husband hollering at Helga, who was out in the backyard...he was hollering 'Drop that Helga, drop it'...I ran to see what was going on, and there was Helga, with her mouth as wide open and big as I have ever seen it, and protruding from her mouth was the butt end of a rabbit....the whole head and front part of the rabbit were already down Helgas throat, and she was busy gobbling up the rest...quick as wink, the butt end of the rabbit, went up into Helgas mouth, and she ate that rabbit, in what seemed like one big gulp...

It actually made me sick to watch the whole thing, tho I realize Helga was simply reverting back to her natural state of being a hunter...

I could not feed any of the dogs that day...they all had to subsist on their doggie biscuits till the next day...I could just not stomach feeding them their regular food for that day....

Bill was able to extricate the rabbit from Lulu's mouth,
it was just traumatized and loaded with booboos
I saw that dummy morning dove waddle in, but it went to this room, where other bird was, other bird flew out open window
I thought it would have enuf sense to follow when Lulu appeared
but as you say, they like to hunt
I can understand why they just subsisted on dog biscuits for rest of day tho :)

Hard to imagine a Killer Helga or LuLu ;-)Somewhat strange to think of the dopey looking basset as predator, though thinking of Helga scarfing down a bunny in a few gulps is very funny.Terrible table manners ;-)
