Thanks so much for yall's help. I did finally get tech support from Charter. I was told that the only way to receive and send e-mail was through Outlook Express. I spent an hour and a half on the phone while a tech took me through download of Outlook Express and other maneuvers to create an account. It failed. But, she will call me back tomorrow to try to resolve the problem. Lord love a duck, I am exasperated!

Oh, by the way, the Charter folks did not even tell me of an e-mail option when they set up my modem, much less give me an account name and password.
