Having traveled past Salt Lake City, I have to say that I think that the Shire is a little greener than that. One thing though, driving west through the Salt Lake Desert towards Nevada, the jagged black mountains west of the state line were almost exactly as I pictured the mountains surrounding Mordor!

Ooooh...the Shire on the borders of Mordor. Methinks the hobbits might be a bit uncomfortable with that geography.
