Just feeling the waters to see if anyone out there likes to play when they are not FReeping. Heck, may be one heck of a way to settle disputes.

Ping - Been playing at all recently?
To: HairOfTheDog
Hey, I'm still looking for people to play
FreeSpace 2 or Moto Racer 2 with! <|:)~
To: martin_fierro
hhmmm... don't know a thing about those.... Ever tried UT - or before that Quake?
To: HairOfTheDog
Counter-Strike, Day of Defeat, and Vampire Slayer are the only games worth playing online...

hmmm... haven't played those.... how are they better?
To: HairOfTheDog
I don't know, I haven't played UT because it looks so silly (those three mods use real-looking weapons and players).
For a while--it might still be--Counter-strike was the #1 online game. All three of those games are free, but you have to own Half-Life in order to play them.

Medal Of Honor, Jedi Knight II and Bridge Commander are my main games right now. I picked them up to "stress test" my brand new "Uber-DELL" ("Stress test"...yeah, that could work...yeah...)
I do have UT, though and I can pull together 3 or four others who would link up, all with high bandwidth connections. One of them is an avowed democrat though, but like the rest, he can be a lot of fun to shoot, too.
I'd recommend MOH is you haven't played. The Normandy Landing level is right out of "Private Ryan". Get the patch and the "blood pack" mod from www.planetmedalofhonor.com. Lots of Nazi-killing goodness to be enjoyed here.
Jedi Knight II has very similar game-play to it's predecessors. Lots of puzzles coupled with tons of battles with Storm Troopers and Light-Saber wielding sociopaths. It became A LOT OF FUN when I found the cheat codes that activated realistic light-saber combat ("Helpusobi 1" in the console followed by "g_saberrealisticcombat 1"). VERY GRUESOME. I never laughed so hard. It took about 3 seconds to fall to the "Dark Side" after that. Luke would have been pissed.
Anyway, Freepmail me when you have the server up and going.

Thanks - I will check out MOH - and see how it goes on setting up a UT game... I will definately let you know! - thanks!

OK rude boy... thanks for the tip. If there are other good games out there, I will check them out. I have never had a requirement that games be just like real life... But I am silly that way.
To: HairOfTheDog
You can download the MOH demo from www.gamespot.com, you'll need a Voodoo 3 or more recent card to run it, though.
Tried to take an Imperial Officer prisoner this morning while I was printing my tax return. Turned to check out a noise from the printer and heard a howl from the monitor. The guards right hand was on the ground and he was on his knees screaming in pain. Shook the mouse in my surprise and his head pop off. Hope they've got more officers. Durn Light-Sabers need a warning label or something.

hahahaha!
I have a NVIDIA GeForce 256 video card.... is that up to date enough? - I would hope so, but I am a driver not a mechanic.

I have a GEForce 2 which looks great, it should be fine. I'm not sure about the 1rst Generation, though.
Let me know if you decide to upgrade. I'll direct you to a site where you can get DELLS for 1/3 of the price. No reason to make you wait actually, just go to DELL and check out refurbished systems. The best prices are available around 5:30AM Wednesday and Thursday morning. Otherwise all the good deals get snatched up.
To: Yakboy
Thanks... deals are always good! My Dell is about a year and some old... and still works like a dream on everything I have tried to do... but I know that trying to play ever-fancier games will be the first thing to show a need for more power. This machine will never slow down my real work, only my play. ;~D

One bump to attract the after-church crowd!
To: HairOfTheDog
I'm rude because I give you my honest opinion that UT looks "silly" in contrast to other online games?
Just play one round of DoD and tell me you ever want to go back to UT.

Yes I thought your responses were a little rude! I was nicely asking if anyone wanted to play a game, and you told me my game was silly in one response, and prior to that you informed me that your favorites were the only games worth playing on the whole net!... Don't worry, I am not ruffled by it, though I did want to note the rudeness, lest others think this how respectful people talk to each other.
FRegards! ;~D

Name the time and place for UT. I've been looking to play online, but the games I jump into aren't fun - helps to know people, I suspect.
Have you tried the Serious Sam Second Episode demo? SS has a "cooperative" online mode, where two or more players work as a team through a level. That could be fun. Later.
To: xm177e2
Don't you mean "Counter-Crack"?
:-)
To: borkrules
It is more fun to play when you know the players... some of the folk in public rooms are jerks, and especially if you are new to it, it can be hard.
The interest on this thread is only trickling in, but I do hope to act on it. We only need a few for fun to be had... at least set up a room sometime to try it out...
If it worked out, some of the team games in UT (like Capture the flag and Assault) would be more fun if there were actual teams that would work together. Haven't tried the other games you mentioned...
