* Last Wednesday afternoon a sheepherder by the name of J. P. White, who had evidently taken on too much bad liquor, took it into his head to shoot up the town. He started near Al Smith's log cabins and established a reign of terror to the inhabitants thereof. Doors were locked against him but he tried to kick them in and, according to the story of a bystander, he shot into one cabin. Police Judge Pope, hearing the shots, stepped to the door of the city hall to see what was going on. White saw him and took a shot at him but his aim was poor and the bullet struck the sidewalk near the door. A phone call was sent into Chief of Police Snyder who arrived on the scene almost immediately and placed White under arrest. He was taken before Judge Pope who gave him the choice of taking the maximum sentence or of leaving town. He chose the latter.
