ROFLOL. Mine migrated here, some few years ago. I've tried, often, to send them on their way. They have actually somehow, beat me back home, at different times. LOL. Anyway, they are here, as we speak. Two of 'em. Hot pink and plastic. In all their glory. :)

There were a couple of threads here about the tree sitter that were hilarious. I actually felt kinda guilty for having so many laughs at the dumb woman's expense.

Decided to take the time to type this up tonight as I'm heading for Phoenix in the a.m.

In The Early Days of Lemhi County, from the April 11, 2002, edition of The Recorder Herald, Salmon, Idaho.

60 Years Ago - 1942
* A war program was featured at Rotary club yesterday. Group singing of war songs, accompanied on the piano by C.C. Dickerson was a preliminary to a discusssion of the war situation.
* The Iron creek school children went for a hike Friday afternoon. Lunch and roasted applies were enjoyed by the group.

70 Years Ago - 1932
* Last Wednesday afternoon a sheepherder by the name of J. P. White, who had evidently taken on too much bad liquor, took it into his head to shoot up the town. He started near Al Smith's log cabins and established a reign of terror to the inhabitants thereof. Doors were locked against him but he tried to kick them in and, according to the story of a bystander, he shot into one cabin. Police Judge Pope, hearing the shots, stepped to the door of the city hall to see what was going on. White saw him and took a shot at him but his aim was poor and the bullet struck the sidewalk near the door. A phone call was sent into Chief of Police Snyder who arrived on the scene almost immediately and placed White under arrest. He was taken before Judge Pope who gave him the choice of taking the maximum sentence or of leaving town. He chose the latter.

80 Years Ago - 1922
* Acording to word brought down from Leadore today that the town is without a newspaper, the publisher having departed for the south where he has in hand other ambitious undertakings.
* Every man who has tried out his car since the recent heavy rains seems to have had the luck for getting stuck in the mud. Trains are late, and stages are experiencing much difficulty in making their regular trips. The road between Tendoy and Lemhi is impassable.
* Nearly everyone in this vicinity is sick with what seems to be a second attack of the flu.

90 Years Ago - 1912
* E.J.Roske has sold to Mrs. Edith Clark, for a consideration of $1350 the townsite of Carmen, comprising about six acres, together with all singular tenements, hereditaments, appurtenances, and buildings thereunto belonging, Mr., Roske has let this go at a very reasonable price, as the rentals of the houses for the last year brought $35 a month and the place is destined to grow in value.
* J.T. Burns of Colorado Springs came into Salmon on Monday's train. He has just returned from the East where he has been in conference with some mining men interested in Tungsten properties in the Pahsimari valley.

100 Years Ago - 1902
* U.S. Marshall Ramsey has written Sheriff Hughes that he will send a deputy here next week after the Indians who are in jail awaiting trial.
* The steam engine used in the construction of the electric road at Mackay, ran away last week, tearing up the track and finally landed at the foot of the hill where it lies in a mass of twisted iron rods and broken steel. The fireman and engineer both saved themselves by jumping. An electric motor will be put on in its place.

110 Years Ago - 1892
* I take this means of notifying all parties not to hitch their horses to my fence on the west side of the church lot. N. I. Andrews
* LOST -- Near Rippy's ranch, a neck yoke belonging to a McCormack reaper. The finder please leave the same at J.L.Kirtley's ranch or town residence and be rewarded.
* Football has been the principal amusement for young and old during the past two weeks. Window lights have suffered to the extent of $18, and the drug stores have done a fine business in liniments.

********************

Does anyone know if real football's season has changed from back in the good old days, i.e., April, to what it is today...?
