He had quite a bit of fun chasing the fish and annoying the crayfish. He squeaked at the German Shepard that lives near where I saw him and scared her away

hi darksheare
these animals and birds in Rutger's Creek are a trip
the birds tease you
the otter teases the german shepard

I've only seen the one myself. The beaver in the creek number about four or so. The heron is a loner, and the bluebirds prefer the hill near where the old creamery used to sit. The otter, I think he's either an escape from the area 'zoo' in Sussex, New Jersey. Kinda like the mink. Where the zoo sits used to be a mink farm. Some of the mink escaped back before the mink farm closed... and they've lived there since. (Mink are nasty. I can get close to them without them knowing I am there... but it's a mistake to do so.) The local raccoons sit in the trees and chitter at each other. Makes for an interesting walk at 2 a.m. with a full moon. (the spring peepers have been out for a month or more..)

Speaking of full moon.. the prettiest thing I have ever seen, was engraved on my mind during a full moon. We had a foot and a half of snow on the ground when I had started out on a hike, and I got caught out in an ice storm. Took shelter in an old camp near where I used to live to wait out the rain. The clouds rolled off, and the moon came out... The trees looked like blown glass sculptures or cut crystal, and the ground was a sheet of crystal and white. The moon shining through the trees tossed faint rainbows on the ground here and there, and brighter white spots as well. Been haunted by that memory since. Kinda like seeing ultimate beauty, and knowing that you will never see it nor achieve it again. Makes my drawing talent look like paltry hen scratches on paper to me. Oop, there I go, off on a tangent again. Let you go for now, -Darksheare
