Gee John, what do you do in your spare time? I have to admit I'm happier nearing this weekend than I was last weekend. Good work.

Just installed my CSS. Thanks John.

Perhaps you could put all the navs into drop downs on the top? And they could be dynamically filled depending on your sidebar preferences and what not.

(I had big plans for that extra sidebar y'hear!)

Go with it. SURELY there is a way to make a navigational sidebar that everyone can deal with. EVERY large website has this.

Look back at my Blue Border thread. People are lost without a navigation bar. Without it it still looks like a center frame page missing the menu frame.

Most freepers I talked to like the new functionality, but don't want to sacrifice the old look. Any ideas?

I'm over in the BETA now. The font is pretty bad. I think most all FReepers are pretty used to Arial. Might as well stick with that.

Can we have the style that everyone hated in beta? I liked that one the best (with the left frame and the flags and such). Maybe that could be a switch that could be turned on.

These style sheets are fun! FreeRepublic is very purple at the moment and I have my flag border back! :)

I can't wait. Thanks! Your hard work always pays off.

Do you bake cookies in your ((spare time)) too?

Pantas Re ;)

It took a little fumblin' and a-bumblin' on my part to get used to the new format, but I'm likin' it. Thanks for all your hard work.

I highly recommend TopStyle Pro 2.5 to edit style sheets. Wow! I never imagined any GUI tool could replace vi. Is there something like this for HTML? Perl?

STYLE SHEETS -- Now using style sheets. Those in the know can define their own style sheet to use with Free Republic. Later there will be predefined (and perhaps customizable.) See "My Preferences / Layout"

I'll get my CSSes back up and working for the new Beta format, everyone will be able to FReep in whatever color they like...

Thanks, John; though lowly " webbies " can't use most of this stuff.

The fixes, are greatly appreciated ! There are still a few problems for " webbies " ... such as the top of the screen is still sliced off, and there is no way to unsubscribe to forums. H-E-L-P ; please . I, for one, was " given " a subscription to a forum, which I do NOT want. I sunscribed to a forum, which I now see I do NOT want . I am unable to get rid of either. I think that the halved top of the screen is the problem. Any suggestions ? I'm just ignoring and making lemonade out of this problem ; as are other " webbies ". Loading is still kinda slooooooooooooow, but at least the WebTV units aren't shutting off any more. : - )

Again, many thanks for the quick fixes to the most egregious problems.

Someone flagged "My comments" page with a couple of photo's. I'm sympathetic to the military but the photo's take forever to load. Is there any way to get rid of them?

Cut out a lot of fat. Pages are 50% lighter!

Wow. Nice job. I'll keep using the beta for that reason alone.

Thanks so much for all your work. These changes have been fascinating to watch and experience. Sometimes it feels like I'm on a rollercoaster; I can't imagine how you feel.

MANAGE SUBSCRIPTIONS (Topics, your sidebar) -- order them any way you please.
You must be logged in, find the "My Subscriptions" link in your nearest Personal menu (click on your name in the upper right corner.)
Kewl!

Although I guess that it would be important to note that this MARVELOUS ability to permanently FIX the position of "topics" in your right-hand sidebar - so that...

Breaking News is ALWAYS at the top - Yeah!!!
and
the NUMBER of articles per topic can be as large as FIFTY!!!
... only exists (for now) in the ALTERNATE universe of BETA-Free Republic, so that you have to go to:
http://beta.freerepublic.com/focus/my/subscriptions
...to experience these new features in all of their glory.
And, John, the mega-REVIEW page, at:
http://beta.freerepublic.com/focus/my/review
...is the COOLEST feature of them all!!!!
(Hard-core FReepers: You must go there. Now!)

"Freeping Creaturism" ... lol, that's funny :-)

Style sheets: woohoo! glad to have them back. Like I posted on one of those threads, you could implement quite a bit of your original beta in CSS, and allow users to change that to their preference (colors, fonts, etc.)

Sidebars: love 'em. The best change from the old style.

PHOTO ALBUM / Image Hosting: Sounds good for the hostless folks, but do you have unlimited bandwidth? or some way to throttle popular images? Anytime I hosted an image it got hundreds/thousands of hits, and really sucked down my bandwidth.

I can't seem to find the 'My Subscriptions' link to tweak the number of threads listed in each sidebar topic?

Also, do you have a list of the various CSS classes you use. A little shorthand crib-sheet would be handy when rolling our own.

Great job, I really like the layouts and colors in your original beat. I will play with this this weekend (and maybe build my new computer to play with it on).
