It may take several days before it is known just how lucky the horse is.....oftentimes, a horse will appear to be recovering from a really stressful situation and suddenly turns for the worse.....the most notable case recently was last October at Breeders Cup time when a 3-year old filly reared and fell just before going onto the track.
They were able to get her up and back to her stall and she seemed to respond for several days; and suddenly took a backwards turn and had to be put down.
