Got a few moments' reprieve before I must dash, so here's today's news:

On the Halle Barry front, from Page Six - NOW that Halle Berry has an Oscar, she wants Ron Perelman to cough up more cash for her Revlon ads - but the beleaguered billionaire isn't biting. Sources say Berry made Perelman hopping mad by asking for a raise when the two ran into each other at Elton John's InStyle-sponsored Oscars bash. When Berry, Oscar in hand, bumped into Perelman, he congratulated her and said how happy he was that Berry's a Revlon model. "Of course, now you'll have to pay me more," Berry responded. According to our spy, Perelman turned purple with rage and stalked off. The next day he instructed his lawyers to figure out how to make the most of Berry's coup, yet still keep her indentured at her current rate for as long as possible.

....[T]he reason Berry thanked Oprah Winfrey in her acceptance speech was that the daytime queen was the one who paid the settlement of Berry's 2000 hit-and-run case, for which she received three years probation. "Halle didn't have the kind of money it took to pay off the victim," says our source.

Good grief, Liza's still in the news. I guess Gest's plan is working:

CLOSE friends of Liza Minnelli are today terribly worried about the fragile legend after she abruptly canceled a weekend rehearsal to which they'd been invited only a day earlier. rest of story.

I hadn't heard of this before (just found it in an old NYsocialdiary.com listing), that Norman Mailer's wife, Norris Church Mailer, was an old flame of Bill Clinton's:

Norris is the sixth wife of the great American novelist. They've been married for the past quarter century however ....

Norris, however, is a girl from Arkansas, and no matter where she's been in life, she remembers quite clearly where she came from....

We were talking about Bill Clinton. I brought it up because I knew she had dated him when she was a kid back in Arkansas, when he was first running for Congress. Still a bachelor [but engaged to Hillary at the time, wasn't he?]. Norris worked in his first campaign. Their dating was casual and not an intense interest on the part of either. It quickly turned into more a friendship. Her first awareness of Hillary was when someone pointed her out during the campaign, the young woman who seemed to always be around Bill. By that time, she and Bill were just friends. Seeing Hillary Rodham was just a matter of passing curiosity. link.

DO you mean to tell me that Halle Berry couldn't go out and BORROW the money just like all the rest of us would have to do? And do you ALSO mean that Halle Berry doesn't have to carry insurance for just this kind of thing, like all the rest of us do? And finally, why in the world would Oprah Winfrey pay to bail out Halle Berry? I thought Oprah was into personal responsibility? It's not as if Ms. Berry didn't commit some crime since apparently the judge decided she'd have a settlement to pay. Does anyone know Oprah's number? I have a house whose mortgage that needs retiring.

Lookey what Rush found:

Even out of office, Bill Clinton remains a formidable fund-raiser--and an attraction at the rope line. He posed with two unidentified fans at an Oxford University alumni fund-raiser at the Waldorf-Astoria Hotel in New York City. (Check out where he's looking---cheezy sleazeball!)
