What Are The Funniest TV Programs Of All Time?

What are some of your favorite comedy shows of all time?

For myself, I like Howard Stern's old Channel 9 show, Fawlty Towers, Police Squad, The Young Ones, et al. I'm sure other people have different ideals as to what they consider humorous....

"I'm Stan Shmenge."

"And I'm Yosh Shmenge."

"And ve are the Happy Vanderers."

SCTV could be up and down, but when it was up, it was hilarious.

Early SNL also had Jim Henson's muppets, but not the better known ones. These were R-rated, irreverent characters who worshipped the Mighty Favog. The Mighty Favog, an animated stone god, was fed live chickens in order to get his advice.

I don't recall the name of the king who ruled this bunch of misfits, but he was often addressed as "Your Flatulence" by his smarter toady.

I have never seen seen these puppets in SNL reruns, but they were one of the better features of the first, perhaps second season.

Anybody else remember these characters?

I agree on Fridays. I loved that series. Remember the pharmacist who partook in his own stock?

Gritted teeth, wild eye:: "I can handle it!!"

What about "Soap"? A young Billy Crystal as the gay son and Bob the puppet.>

Oh man I used to laugh myself silly over that show. I loved the dummy, and the episodes where Bert thought he was invisible....

Tim Conway(can't remember the show, maybe it was Carol Bernet)

Yes! He used to kill me on Carol Burnett. He would play that old man. I remember episodes where he would make the whole cast crack up.

60's to 70's

1) Caroll Burnett Show

2) I love Lucy

3) Sanford and son

4) Andy Griffith show

Of course, the first SNL's belong here, but SNL was totally different than the above shows, because of the "adult situations". And IMHO, in a class by itself.

80's to 90's

1)Got to go with "Married with Children". The start of a long run for FOX.

2)Simpsons , like "married", blasted by critics for the first few years, it's longevity speaks for it's success.

3) Roseanne, I didn't like it or her at first, but you gotta like somebody who tells it like it is.

I gotta give a special mention to "Friends", I don't watch it regularly, but it is a quality show and sometimes funny. But I don't consider it a "pure comedy" show.

Present 1st runner up - "70's show" well written with excellent character to actor/actress matching.

2nd runner up - "Malcolm in the middle" Didn't like it at first, but again, another FOX show that has a great writing crew. Seems to be a trend.

And now for the grand prize funniest show on today, and I'm probably gonna be blasted for this, but to me the funniest show on today is by far " South Park".

Yeah, it leans toward immature potty gags sometimes, but it is the ONLY show out there where NOTHING is out of bounds. They make fun of every group out there, including us white people.

Gay, fat, black, chinese, rich, poor, white, government types, hunters, Christians, Jews, Atheist, teachers, no one is left out. This makes it hard for one group to cry "Foul". And what is really funny, is that the situations they portray always have a ring of truth to them.

Sure, there our a few uninspired episodes, but the creators of "South Park" enjoy almost total artistic freedom, and freedom from network execs who stifle the creativity of normal fare sitcoms.

I think FOX can also credit giving some leeway to writers with it's success in producing more than it's share of long running, successful sitcoms.

The Osbourns was awsome!, especially the first one about the dogs crapping all over the house. This last one kind of sucked though.

I was waiting for someone to mention "Get a Life" My favorite was the one where he was in that haunted house, and the one where his job was replaced by that huge military looking vehicle.

And the winner is,"Soap". "Taxi" also deserves honorable mention,as does "The Family Guy" and the "Simpsons".

No doubt the "Carol Burnett Show" should rank right up there in the top 10. MUCH funnier than "I love Lucy",or any of those other lame shows that get so much press.

The live turkey giveaway episope of WKRP in Cincinatti was far and away the single funniest episode of a sitcom ever. I still laugh myself senseless when I see it.

As great as it was, there was a episode of Taxi that matched it. This is the espisode where Latka gets married to Carol Kane. The little speech she gives about marriage may be the one funniest scene I ever saw or heard anywhere.

In Living Color

You're right. One of the all-time greats. I can't imagine anybody else even trying to do stuff like "Men on Film".
