It is going to be a while before they can trace back to before this Columbia supercontinent; the evidence is already sparse and jumbled. Part of California is going to end up in Alaska, soon by this timescale. There's only so many times continents can slam together and break apart before they are indistinguishable from each other, like kneaded bread dough. Who knows what has gone on before; we barely have a clue from 1500 BC, which is just this morning geologically.
