"What I will do is read the People magazine coverage when I got to my hairdresser!"

I buy People Mag (and some of the rag sheets) once a year just to see what folks wear to the Oscars. I tell the cashier I'm buying them for my mom.

Lorena, great find on that picture. It deserves some kind of award.

The Academy seems to always find a star who is sick or dying to bring on stage and then they get a standing "O" from the very compassionate Hollywood crowd. Looks like this year's candidate is Ryan O'Neal. Oscar is also cashing in on the Ice-Dancers who skated to Love Story, I expect.

Actor Ryan O'Neal, who has been battling chronic leukemia for the past year, will appear as a presenter on the Oscars telecast Sunday alongside actress Ali MacGraw, his co-star in the 1970 big-screen romance 'Love Story,' his publicist said March 22, 2002. O'Neal is seen here in this January 12, 1998 file photo as he arrives for the premiere of his new film 'Zero Effect' on in Los Angeles. Photo by Reuters

It is amusing, isn't it? I don't want to spend the money on People when I can read it at the hairdresser's!

Looks like Ryan's really milking it. My mother's had chronic leukemia for years, and it has yet to require treatment. Some people have it for decades. Oh well, actors aren't like the rest of us who have to suck it up and muddle through without adulation.

I love la Liz. She has been clean and sober for many years. She continues to battle her food additions however. She recently celebrated her 70th birthday by checking into a very posh hotel-spa in S. California for a week or two. Her final bill was in the 6 figures. She did not go there to lose weight, evidently, as she brought her own butler to help manage and prepare her meals and they were not low cal, her favorite meal being fried chicken and mashed potatoes. Michael Jackson, who is really a good friend of hers, checked into an adjoining suite with his kids for a few days to keep her company. She once remarked in a t.v. interview that "Michael is the most normal person I know".

Liza has been clean and sober now for 3 whole months following a stint in rehab in December.

Check out the pearls on Liz.

Evidently, Ryan's brother has already been harvested for his bone marrow, just in case Ryan needs it someday. Seems his brother is a reprobate type and they fear his marrow might not be good later on if and when Ryan needs it.

Other tab tidbits on the O'Neal family: Ryan and Farrah's 17 year old son is a druggie and is in some sort of reform prison. He has been in trouble with drugs since his early teens. And Tatum is now dating Alec Baldwin.

If Michael is the most normal person she knows, I don't even want to THINK about the other people she knows!!

The Liza bridal group do look like a display from Movieland Wax Museum, LOL.

Elizabeth Taylor was such a beauty and wasn't Michael Jackson a nice, cute, normal looking kid?

I want to know who is going to wear that $1 million pair of Stuart Weitzman's. I love Weitzman's shoes, but these are a bit tacky....

Pics from the Indepentdant Spirit Awards (the Anti-Oscars for Independant film) are now up at http://www.nysocialdiary.com/

Lots of peasant dresses and hippie clothes this year at the pre-cursor function to the Oscars. I expect more color but the same trends at Oscar with more glamour, also some humourous pics from author George Plimptons 75th birthday are up now..
