And there's just enough sneak in me to say "I will."
I know it's an exercise in futility. I know I will never convince them to change. But I do think we have some affect in pointing out some of the absurdities.
Summer and fall will change my available posting time. So I'll be backing out of the arguments somewhat. I've only been there since February. They went on for two years on FR before I got there. And they'll be there after I leave.
Let's face it, the disciples walked with Jesus and argued about which one was the greatest. We humans can't understand the mind of God, but we want to think we can. And when we get it "figured out" we want to make everybody else agree with us.
The arguments are all over man's interpretation of who God is. And I think we all fall short of a real understanding.
Oh, I wasn't trying to implicate you in any of that. I was just making a general observation.
Certainly if someone is promoting false doctrine then we need to be there to stand against it. After all God tells us to earnestly contend for the faith. He also tells us, through Paul, that if we do anything without love then it is worthless.
I like doctrinal battles as much as the next guy, if I didn't I wouldn't be a participant on The Neverending Story thread. However, we should be able to have these "fights" in a way that still shows the world that even though we have these disagreements we still have a love for one another, if not for the actual person then at least for the Christ that died for that person.
Please continue to fight the good fight. Because if you don't then the vacuum you leave behind will be filled, most likely, by a troll.

I agree.

But don't you think that some of those folks who smugly think that God is on their side could be more helpful if they tried harder to be on God's side? I seem to have this idea that God doesn't endorse all that hateful sounding stuff.
