Perhaps it was just the reminder that I got from your link of the unpleasant associates who followed me here. Maybe just the ability to ban posters from a thread would be sufficient, without the other problems you mention. If this facility was known to exist, it might be enough to prevent unpleasantness, without actually using it. Sort of like the fact that a private club can kick out an unpleasant guest prevents a lot of folks from getting unpleasant.
