The most obvious thing I can think of was that they were using their rings of power to hold their lands in a sort of "stasis," unaffected by the outside world--this is true of both Lothlorien and Rivendell, if I am understanding that correctly.
...But this is a fantasy story, with wonderful races of people in them that are not real, and not us... and I think the elves are one of the most wonderful creations in the story (with the possible exception of hobbits of course) They are ethereal and yet strong, they are wise but they are not omniscient. I am not going to find it to be somehow against God to have created and protected their wonderfully magical realms such as Lothlorien and Rivendell... the lands that they dwell in are mystical and a very favorite stop for me in the story. They are set apart from everywhere else in the story as special. I enjoy finding lessons and meaning in the story as much as everyone else, but I think this is getting way too obtuse for me.
What is with the boy's choir at the end of the soundtrack? It keeps shocking me. It just came on again.
