We saved every 2L bottle we used for a year and filled it up with water and a little clorox to keep it potable. That summer after Y2K, I filled up the boy's pool with about a fourth of it.

Well, for water, I do have a 55 gallon water barrel in the barn with potable water. About three day's worth for the horses, before I would be needing to load it in the truck and find more. Water would become a big problem for me. But my water barrel has a tap right on it... figured I would go fill it and leave it in the truck if the power was out a long time.
