My experience with computer manufacturers has been mixed. Most companies become reluctant to give you tech support after a couple of years (even if the contract states "unlimited"). Instead of trying to solve the problem, most techs advised me to buy a new computer.

Gateway still offers "support" for my parents' aging machine -- which they contract out to some firm in India. (It is fun watching my dad attempt conversation with a foreigner.)

Also, if you don't buy all your components and some software from the company that built your PC, they may try to void your support contract.

My sister has warned me about the service nightmares she has seen and personally been through.

Maybe I should re-think my position on letting her build me one. I could always install an alarm on the casing in case she tries to break in! LOL!!
