Here is a picture of cedar berries, I guess it is a different, but similar species that grows in the east. Its Latin name is Juniper.

We have a bush here that is a juniper relative that people use in landscaping. They are OK I suppose when they are small, but I have never seen one that I didn't eventually want to yank out with a truck! Although a hedge of them is a good deterrent to trespassers. More lethal to climb through than razor wire! Horribly stickery.

Those berries look beautiful. I can see why folk would use them as Christmas trees.
