My problem is that I've only read the books twice. Once really fast, once slow... so, I've probably forgotten so much of it.

I've seen the movie more... so that is probably my over riding impressions.

I have read the Sam/Smeagol/Frodo scenes alot, mostly because I think they are wonderfully written, funny, and very, very good. In fact, to me, writing doesn't get any better than those three going through Mordor.

That is exactly what I am talking about. The movie tends to drown out the book to a varying extent, depending upon how recently you have read it and how firmly fixed you are able to keep it in mind as you watch.
