I do owe a debt of gratitude to Peter Jackson. My wife had never read Tolkien before we went and saw FoTR. After we saw the movie she had questions I couldn't answer at the time so she read the books herself.
She tore through all three in about three weeks. Normally she does not like to read, so that she did this surprised me.
I would put her interest on just a slightly lower level than those of us here on this thread.
I told her that I was trying to get the Entmoot to Florida so we could be the hosts. She was a little skeptical at first, but now she likes the idea. But I'm not allowed to invite anybody who may be a homicidal maniac in disguise. ;^)
So I am blessed to have her for my wife. ;^)

I'm hoping the same scenario will play out with my husband. He was never a big reader, but he was so interested in the film that he bought the trilogy for me and asked immediately if he could read it after I was finished.
He's still on the Fellowship, so I think it's still too soon for the LoTR bug to have really bitten him yet.
