I think Bombadil is a character you either like or don't like. My friend who lent me her books loves him. I started reading, and I thought what a silly character. I thought from the time the Hobbits met Bombadill until they reached the Pracing Pony little served the story. MozartLover in the Green Dragon gave some interesting background on Bombadil, but still, move the story on. I'm glad I didn't give in to my first inclination and put the book down while Tom was skipping down the paths... I would have missed a great book.

I usually tend to "speed read" up to Bree. At least this chapter-by-chapter deal makes me focus on details I missed before.
