I don't think there's any way they can make the ending of TTT not QUITE so bad, the way they did with FOTR.

But I remember some of the critics (who'd obviously never read the books) saying that FOTR didn't have an ending.

Of course, WE all know that it's not the end of the story. I hope that concept is clear.

Do you think we'll at least get some inkling that Sam is mistaken about Frodo's "condition?"

That's the main thing I'm wondering about. Leaving the story hanging with Frodo "dead" would be pretty rough, especially as there are plenty of people who have never read the books and wouldn't know. They didn't change the fall of Gandalf, so who knows?

Sam's reaction is going to make me cry one way or another, I'm sure. Poor little guy!
