I seem to remember the mediots remarking that it looked like he didn't care because he didn't react. I think you're much closer to the truth.

Yes, they wanted their boy Bill there. Aside from everything else, just imagine if he was still President on that terrible day, his self-indulgent emotionalism as he 'felt your pain'!

I seem to remember the mediots remarking that it looked like he didn't care because he didn't react.

The documentary itself talked about how he felt he needed to finish what he was doing and didn't feel that the children needed to hear the news yet. The mediots just didn't look close enough. They were busy looking for a blatant reaction and didn't look at his eyes. His eyes are so expressive.
