Morning all my hobbity friends.
It is the one year anniversary of the vicious attacks on our country. I would like to take this opportunity to thank you all for the friendship of the past year.
I know I have only been participating on "The Hobbit Hole" for the past few months, but I feel like I have known you all for years. Your companionship and friendship have helped alleviate the feelings caused by last year's 9-11.
As we go forward we need to be careful not to dwell on last year's attack and be weighed down by heaviness and sadness. 9-11 should be our new rallying cry much like "Remember the Alamo!" 9-11 should be remembered with pride in how we responded to each other's needs. 9-11 should also be remembered to keep the fire of our righteous wrath stoked against those who would dare do such a thing against us and 9-11 should energize our future actions to ensure that no one ever dares attempt anything like that again.
Again, I want to thank all of you even Tennessee Republican ;^).

I don't know where all that came from, but there it is.

I don't know where all that came from, but there it is.I suspect it came from your heart?
We're off to a dedication where our local park took a piece of the WTC and made it into a memorial. We're going to place a flag by it. Then we're coming home and baking cookies for the firefighter unit down the street from us.
That's how we plan to spend the day. No School!

Good morning, all.
A year later...it doesn't seem like it's been that long, does it? And on the other hand it seems forever ago; so much has happened in the last year.
I was hanging out here at FR last 9-11 and noticed that a thread called something like "Plane Crashes into WTC" seemed to be getting a lot of attention - I didn't even know what WTC stood for at the time. When I finally got around to checking it out, everything started to seem unreal...the second plane hit seconds after I clicked on the thread, and there was talk of the Pentagon being on fire.
I immediately called home and asked Mom if they were listening to the news. They weren't, and when I told her what was going on she was shocked, as everyone was that day - here at work people were clustered around the few radios in the office, listening in disbelief.
They sent us home by mid-morning, and I went right to my parents' house, as all of us who live in the local area did. The TV reception here is terrible and for the most part they don't use the TV for anything but videos, but that day we moved it around the house until we found a place with decent reception - on the dresser in Mom and Dad's bedroom. We all sat on the bed to listen to Bush's words that evening, and prayed that the worst was over.
I kept thinking about the people who had lost friends and family, people who never had a chance to say goodbye...and thanked God that it would likely be years before I had to deal with anyone close to me being taken away.
We had no idea at that time that Mom was already sick, that we had so little time left ourselves. I suppose in a way it prepared us for how quickly life can change, but it's very different to be on the outside looking in. This year, I can sympathise in some small way with the people who were most directly touched by the attacks, and I can be grateful that we were there when she died, that we COULD say goodbye, as much as one ever can.
Ksen, it's interesting that you mention "Remember the Alamo" - we just had a little ceremony here at work, pledging to the flag, some prayer and a moment of silence. One of the men who said a few words said the same thing - mentioned the Alamo, and that we must not forget!
I'm not the best with words...but I wanted to share some of my thoughts.
God bless America!
