The Jarrel tornado in 1997 passed about 5 miles from my house..

The 'Storm of the Century' about 9 years back, dropped one of its tornadoes about 3 blocks away from here. When I felt the air pressure drop, I got the family and dogs into an interior closet. This was a weak tornado which just tore down some fences, and took part of some roofs.

Tornadoes scare me, because they're so unpredictable. Austin is at the southern tip of Tornado Alley, so they happen here more often than I'm comfortable with. But, the Jarrell tornado was the only one in the time I've lived here that came close to me personally.

Oh, we had an ice storm here in February 1996 that shut down the town for about 2-3 days. That was kind of fun, we just stayed home the whole time...
