Well Hullo Penny! - Thank you for your support!
Maybe we all really are lefties up here in Washington! But if we can think it is great when we are surrounded by it, perhaps those in other areas just can't imagine it being good because it isn't around. I saw the map that ksen posted. Of course, most of that is mountain range that no one is fighting to own. They own it by default, not because they sought it out.
And in my ramblings above I didn't really make a distinction between National and State Forest land.... but the Capitol Forest land that I am most familiar with, and see as well managed, is State DNR, not Federal. Perhaps it makes a difference, I have not spent as much time in the Cascades.
One of these hikes you go on I should come along on Bay. He and I would love to walk with you! (why walk when you can ride is my motto)

You are welcome! And I think you are absolutely right...you kinda have to
be here to get an idea of what we're talking about. So y'all should c'mon up here for a visit sometime! ;)

What a great idea! Of course, you'll both have to wait around for me to catch up with you, but as long as you don't mind that, it'd be a lot of fun!
I kinda like that "why walk when you can ride" motto too--but especially when it refers to bicycling!!
