That's the thing. I don't trust anyone to take better care of her than I do, or make a commitment to her. I just was afraid of her losing the prime of her life and ending up old and still untrained, when no one would wanted her then. And so if she is to be a riding pony, it should happen in the next year or two. But what difference does that make if I keep her for life? - None.

Boy, that's a hard thing.
I remember when I got my greyhound, though...the lady that had (fostering) her didn't want to give her up. But the minute she saw her with me, she just knew it was going to be alright. We just loved it each other.
Maybe that will be how it is with this lady?
If not, we all support you in your decision to keep the pony!
