Good Morning everyone! Did everyone have a good weekend? I finished reading The Hobbit to the boys...did I tell you? Last Friday. Matthew wanted me to go ahead and start reading the FOTR, but I decided I needed to read something Joshua could enjoy a little bit too. ( He usually went to sleep while I was reading.) Maybe Charlotte's Web?

Anyway, I've started reading FOTR to myself again. I was struck more than ever by how closely PJ stuck to Tolkien's words during the party and when Bilbo departs! It's word for word in most parts. I can just see it. Like when Bilbo says "I want to see mountains again, Gandalf--mountains;" and the discussion between Bilbo and Gandalf about him leaving the Ring to Frodo. I think that is what I am most grateful to PJ for...sticking so closely to the words that I've loved so long. It's like he realized that Mr. Tolkien was "the best" at saying what he wanted to have said and by using them almost unaltered in the script, he acknowledged it publicly.

Gosh, I'm pretty gabby this morning.

Have they done The Chronicles of Narnia yet? That is my second-favorite series.

2J, that was what really stood out to me on my 2nd or 3rd viewing of the movie. I had read FOTR for the second time since the movie had come out, so when I went to see it all the dialogue was really fresh in my mind. So there I was sitting in the theater absolutely blown away at how much of the dialogue was EXACTLY the same as the book, literally word-for-word as you said.

Popping in again, glad your reading has gone well. We finished The Two Towers on Saturday night. Pretty tough stuff, for my wife and oldest son (the other two were sound asleep.) We're rooting for Gollum, and then he tips over to the dark side. And I have to admit I got pretty choked up reading Sam's goodbye to the seemingly-dead Frodo. What a valiant, loving hobbit!
