One would think so, but I don't take chances if I can help it. There were news stories 2-3 years ago about Louisiana cops pulling over and harrassing interracial couples with out-of-state plates, travelling on I-10. So, the attitudes still exist some places. I figure they're more likely to exist in places where there was strong feeling in the first place. So, I avoid those places.

Prudence is always a good idea, especially in Louisiana. The cops in The Big Easy used to hire themselves out to do mob hits, so I wouldn't put anything past them.
