The only thing I would add is be sure to wear a pair of gloves when removing a dead bird or small animal.

Well CAV, it is too late for that!

I didn't have gloves on when I picked it up. I was too surprised to see it there to think of going to get them. I did wash up real well with the bleach when I was cleaning the buckets out. If I start to develop strange symptoms, call a medic!

My horse is now afraid of the water buckets. He thinks something is going to leap out at them. Great.

I wouldn't want to drink out of something that had had a dead body in it, either.

You should be alright this time but keep a pair around just in case you need them again. When I see a small dead animal anywhere but on the side of the highway, rabies is the first thing I think of. : (

It may be the bleach smell that has your horses leery of the water but that should clear up rather quickly.

Lurker Beth is online now and I am waiting for her to get caught up reading our posts.

Hullo all, dreary day in NOVA...good to be back...

Sounds like you've had a little excitement Hair. Reminds me of the time I was scouting and filled my then empty canteen in a spring-fed stream (before water filters)...I was just taking a drink when I noticed the rotted, submerged cacass of a deer 10 yards upstream... I kinda figured that's why the H2O had a little wang to it...
