Wait'll you hear this! I'm very excited!
When we moved into this house, we found that the yard was very weedy. There was lots of bermuda, running all through the yard, but it was overwhelmed with weeds!
The worst were sand bur stickers, but we actually crawled around on the ground, sitting on boxes and pulled them up...every one of them because mowing just spread the sticker seeds and we don't do weed killer. Weed killer wouldn't have rid us of the burs anyway. We pulled them till our fingers bled, honestly. But not we only see a sticker now and then.
Anyways, we didn't worry too much about the non-painful weeds, although I thought they looked terrible.
Yesterday, I was walking from the shop to the house and noticed something odd. There were great big squares of just bermuda grass. No (or few) weeds in the squares. I looked at it for a while and then started hollering at Steve to come see. I pointed out the beautiful green squares of bermuda and how the weeds went right up to the squares but then mostly stopped. Then I pointed to a big yellow square place in the yard where the boys pool had been and it had turned the grass yellow underneath. Shoots of green bermuda were coming back, but no weeds!
The boys square plastic pool kills the weeds, turns the bermuda yellow and when we move the pool, the bermuda comes back, but not the weeds! Now we've got a great big blue tarp lying on the grass back there, as an experiment.
