I just finished reading the Silmarllian for the 2nd time in my life. The first time I read it, I understood very little of it. I have read the entire LOTR trilogy 6 times since the movie came out. This reading of the Silmarillian was much clearer. I have started reading the trilogy again, this time with a greater understanding.

Hey, I'm watching the movie again. Did you notice Sauron's big old ring (huge) shrinking to a more normal size in Isildur's hand?
I just noticed it.

the only previous real captain of the Enterprise was Jean Luc Picard!Indeed! I love it when he says "Engage." I always grin stupidly when he does it. My husband just rolls his eyes.

Children arent taught to think in todays schools, they are being trained to work at a job. Amen Ksen!

the best time is between the Fourth of July and Labor Day. I just read the new thread with the FOTR DVD review. Based on that I suggest that we continue the current thread until just before Labor Day, so we would finish up with reviews and reaction to the DVD, which would be a way of concluding our emphasis on the first movie. We would include reaction to the Director's Cut in the next thread, but clearly that will be part of the buildup to TTT. By the end of August, assuming 300 posts/day, we would be up to 32,000 posts, well within the 65,000 limit.
To: Lucius Cornelius Sulla
32,000 postsMake that 41,000 posts, including the 9,000 we are up to now!
To: Lucius Cornelius Sulla
It is getting late, let me get this straight. 32,000 would be the number if we average 300 posts/day, 42,000 if we average 400/day, and 22,000 if we average 200/day.

Please, everybody, pick a date, stop me before I calculate again!!!
To: ksen
I am going to try an experiment. My goal is to not post on FR at all to tomorrow. You'll be sorry! I was off line for 2 days and I'm only half way through 1000 post catch-up.
To: Lucius Cornelius Sulla
Hi - just got home and got caught up....
It is really hot... was 92 today. 45% humidity. Pretty unusual for us.
I think no matter what date we pick, you very well may calculate again! After the DVD release sounds fine to me, but so does 10,000... and so does 65,535!

Sure LCS... Here, have some koolade....

Hmmm, I agree with every story on this list that I've read.
The Stars my Destination is by Alfred Bester, not Heinlein - funny how often it gets accredited to Heinlein, though. I'm not sure why, it didn't remind me of Heinlein. Asimov's Foundation books are great, as are some of his stories. Clarke's short stories are wonderful, especially the Tales from the White Hart. There's a collection of all his short stuff you can probably find at the library - worth reading! It includes the shortest science fiction story ever written (17 words), the longest (fits on one page, but it's the longest) and everything in between, including what I think is the funniest shaggy-dog story in all SF. (If you've read it, I don't remember the title but it's the one about the US space ship that got crushed by a neutron star, and what they found of it....)
Um. Agree about Picard, but the new guy, Archer, has some guts. And he's much more my style than Baldy was.
Hair, ksen, you were debating over the word to describe someone who has the characteristics of a dwarf; might I suggest dwarvish?

You may suggest dwarvish... I like dwarven... dwarvenian?
hehehe
To: osagebowman
Look... some closeups of the fletching on the arrows! - and the points too!

At least I think I am using the word correctly!
To: HairOfTheDog
Dwarvish = resembling Dwarves, of or like the Dwarves. Dwarvish countenance, Dwarvish songs.
Dwarven = member of the Dwarf race or belonging to a Dwarf. Dwarven craftsman, Dwarven halls.
Similarly, Elvish and Elven.

Dwarvenian/Dwarvanist - following the teachings of dwarves... :~D
To: HairOfTheDog
Dwarvology - the study of Dwarves.
Dwarvily - in the manner of a Dwarf.
Dwarvonomy - to stuff a Dwarf and mount it (not recommended!)
Dwarved-in-two - what happens to you when you try to practice dwarvonomy.
