Or maybe watching the fighting between Faramir's men and the Swertings? Perhaps Sam's about to see his Oliphant?
I just saw where Penny posted the picture earlier...oh well! I still like it. ARGH I can't WAIT! How much longer must I endure the wait!!???
To: 2Jedismom
I might go see it on Friday...hoping that the new trailer is out by then.
To: Overtaxed
What's going on with the pictures? They don't seem to want to stick around...
To: 2Jedismom
Is that happening to you too? At work yesterday the Hobbit Hole picture wouldn't load and the Green Dragon Inn picture would sometimes load and sometimes not. This morning they're all loading. Since no one else mentioned it yesterday, I thought it might be my work computer (with the variable RAM.) Is someone moving the picture sources around?
To: Overtaxed;2JedisMom
I copied the properties of your pic, viewed it at the source, and when I came back it worked... I think it is just glitchiness in the Beta.

Good morning! And it is a good morning - cold, with snow on the ground, but sunny and a gorgeous blue sky. I slept in late this morning, until 10, but that's ok - Saturdays are made for sleeping in. Now I have a couple hours before I hafta go home. Incidentally I tried to get into the chat room and couldn't. Anyone else having problems?

I've been able to get in this morning (not that there was anyone to chat with, mind.)
To: JenB
Good morning! I'm poaching myself some eggs and every time one of the boys comes in here I threaten to make them eat one! (They aren't supposed to come in the kitchen when I'm cooking. . .)
I went into the chat not too long ago and it worked ok at that time. It comes and goes though, I've noticed. I hope it's ok tomorrow night for the Oscars Chat!

There is a new LOTR thread up ''Lord of the Rings' Honored at Christian Movieguide Awards', it has a kid asking why is LOTR good and Harry Potter bad, and another one saying LOTR is gay-friendly because of Ian McKellan. The main article is about the awards show mentioned in the title, in which the best picture went not to LOTR but to some picture that sold $36K in tickets altogether. I asked ecurbh to ping the ring list, but he hasn't yet.
I don't know if you saw Bill O'Reilly last night, but he and his movie specialist both predicted LOTR for best picture, keeping my fingures crossed! (My toes too, but with the hair on my feet you can't tell)!
To: Lucius Cornelius Sulla
Yes, I saw the article. I appreciate what family.org has to say about LOTR, but I could honestly not care less about what anyone else thinks! LOL Even the Oscars mean little to me, since I rarely watch TV and LOTR is the first movie I've seen in about 14 years!
These books are classics. I know nothing of the Harry Potter books, mainly because I don't really care for fantasy. It takes something spectacular when it comes to fantasy reading to make me interested and LOTR has it. I believe it's not just the story (though the story is the BEST), but it's Tolkien's style of writing and the depth he puts into every statement. We here in the HH can discuss a single sentence for several hundred posts, because of his depth. That's what I like. I can really wrap my mind in his work.
I do love a really gorey murder mystery though...even a poorly-written one!

We had two local critics on last night who both seemed to predict FOTR for best picture. I was really annoyed with Michael Medved, though, because he had this snooty attitude about LOTR as if he figured it would win but that it didn't deserve to. I thought I liked Medved, but now I'm not so sure. He seemed to think In The Bedroom was the best film--why is it that most critics think only "slice of life" pictures should win as opposed to "slices of cake?"
On E!, it seemed like the people they interviewed had it down to being between Moulin Rouge and ABM? What is THAT all about?
Here's a question...if we do win this year, what happens to our chances for the next two years? Is it possible that winning this year will mean we won't win for RotK (which I'm anticipating is going to be the absolute best of the three)?

Is it possible that winning this year will mean we won't win for RotK (which I'm anticipating is going to be the absolute best of the three)? This is hard to say, because there has been no parallel to this filming of three movies at one time. The closest that I can remember is that Back to the Future II and Back to the Future III were filmed together and released a year apart. The Star Wars movies were filmed seperately, and were other action adventures, but like the Back to the Future movies, they were never going to win a major oscar anyhow. Godfather II did win major oscars, but it was filmed years after the Godfather, so there is no precedent for LOTR at all.

the people they interviewed had it down to being between Moulin Rouge and ABM? What is THAT all about?ABM is successful for a movie which is not a box office smash, and is thought to be of the highest quality. It has been hurt by the Weinstein political attacks. Moulin Rouge has gotten a lot of talk from those who like its corrupt values which are the values of Hollywood, also they like Ms. Kidman, I think.
LOTR has a number of things against it.
It is a New Zealand production with relatively unknown actors directed by a director not taken seriously by many in previous years.
It is a fantasy, and many, including Medved, I guess, look down on all costume dramas, except for historical dramas, like Gladiator.
It has positive values which can even be interpreted as Christian values.
It has made, and will make a lot of money, and while they like to get paid well, they look down on pictures that do well.
The fact that it was even nominated, not to mention being a serious contender, against these considerations is a measure of LOTR's quality.
To: Lucius Cornelius Sulla
Yeah, yeah, I know, I keep forgetting this is Hollywood we're talking about. Medved was a big surprise to me, though, especially comparing his reaction to LotR to Hugh Hewitt's.
It was odd to me what the critics were saying, though, because most of the predictions I thought had been placing LotR up higher in its chances than the folks on E! were.
Ah well, I'm still not expecting much from the Oscars tomorrow night. I know everyone from LotR is just thrilled to even be nominated.

I keep forgetting this is Hollywood we're talking about.Remember the title of Medved's book, Hollywood Hates America, is only too true, and shows how unlikely a win is for LOTR. Medved as a conservative wants to be taken seriously, and, whether he likes it or not, is sure that supporting a fantasy because of its moral values will mark him even more than he is already marked. Of course, maybe he just is not receptive to the genre, we all know plenty of conservatives on FR who are not, some of them very intelligent ones.

Nothing on TORN yet... (though I did send the spymaster the link - hopefully they will verify and let us know!)
To: HairOfTheDog
Oh my!! That is wonderful news indeed! I hope someone can verify it, it kinda sounds too good to be true....

I know... I was skeptical and asked questions! But it has now come from two sources... That is all the press needs to run with a story, so I am running with it!
To: HairOfTheDog
By the way - new video clip just loaded at TORN - I am downloading it now... cant report what it is yet... but the snippets I saw included backstage views of scenes being films and interviews with at least Elijah and Peter Jackson.
To: HairOfTheDog
This is great! Now I will have to keep watching even if McKellan wins and gives a speech like his Saturday Night Live speech!
