It's ok - I just don't want anyone thinking I get tired quite *that* early, since I usually go to bed around 7 or 8, out there... you're in Georgia, right?

you're in Georgia, right? Ma'am, my family has killed for less than that. I'm a Virginian.

Feud!!!

Oh... we used to live there until we moved to Pennsylvania. Hafta say I like it better here, more trees! Don't think any of my family lived in a particular state long enough to develop attachments. It's weird, since three of my four grandparents can trace ancestors back to colonial days; guess they had too much pioneer spirit in them!
Sorry for the insult but at least I had you within a few hundred miles of the right place!

Well, at least you had me in the south! As for more trees where you are, it would depend on which part of Virginia you lived in.

the fragments are among the best things Tolkien wrote. Such a sad and wonderful story, isn't it? It could have rivalled Narn i hin Hurin.... which is beautiful but I don't really like it.I agree with you there, about both the story fragments and the "Narn". It's just so darn *depressing*... very much like a Greek tragedy, in that Turin's troubles come as much from his own failings as they do from anything else.

Feud!!! Careful, anytime there's a fight, the orcs always show up...

Exactly; it's got so many shades of "Oedipus" and similar Greek tragedies... Tolkien is, IMO, at his best when drawing on the "Northern" mythologies as opposed to the "Southern" stories.
Speaking of north/south... (cue bad segue music) in answer to Corin, I used to live in the DC suburbs. I have been told that there are both hills and trees in VA, but the fact remains, I never saw a raccoon in a trash can until I moved to PA.

I used to live in the DC suburbs. Trust me, as a native Virginian, I can assure you that the DC suburbs (I lived in Arlington for 8 years) are nothing like the rest of Virginia. When you made the comment about trees, I guessed that's what you meant.
There's a lot more to Virginia than Metro DC.

I never saw a raccoon in a trash can until I moved to PA.We had a pair of raccoons in our fire place a few months ago. All the time I lived in an actual wilderness area (Michigan's Upper Peninsula) I never saw a raccoon; now that I live in Austin proper, we get them in our fireplace. (sigh)

I think I've seen some of that while driving to visit relatives... it looks like PA only flatter and more farmed, or West VA with few trailer homes.

To: HairOfTheDog
You are in.... Go ahead and tryI did... I didn't realize it was voice chat. My computer doesn't have a microphone... plus, Yahoo tried to install something on my computer, which I objected to. So, until I can figure out what Yahoo wants to do to my system, I'm afraid I won't be joining the chat. Sorry!
Time for bed here anyway... have a good night, Hobbits!
