So nobody likes the young Annikin (sp?)? I thought he looked kinda cute! - I haven't seen it yet... Brother almost got me interested yesterday. May see it with him while it is still in the theaters after all.

Anakin is cute enough, Hair, but his personality should have sent any sane woman running far, far away. I had trouble accepting that she fell for him too--it made her look really, really stupid, IMO.

I'm so glad you enjoyed it, Dan. I hope you get to see it on a bigger screen. I will probably try to catch it at the Cinerama because I heard they had Digital Projection capabilities--would like to see what the difference is.

Ewan and Christopher were terrific, weren't they?

Good day all! Back from church - long way to go but we had an excellent sermon on the wisdom of God. Now on briefly before we start the massive cleaning...

Penny I agree with you about Star Wars. Anakin's a dope, no self-respecting woman should put up with him. McGregor and Lee were the best part of that movie. Ewan seemed very good in the role of Kenobi and of course Christopher's a great actor. It's no LotR but hey, it's decent for what it is.

Well, I looked down at my hands and noticed that my nails had gotten very long... But here is the weird part. Instead of cutting them I have filed them and painted them deep red. I think I shall go lurk at the Guild and find out what I should do now!

The ONLY things I can say on the other hand are (A) unfortunately, smart women do on occasion do stupid things in love which they regret for the rest of their lives; and (B) my wife's point, that one thing for him in her eyes might be that she doesn't intimidate him. Strong women get that a lot. (She agrees in being appalled at the matchup; she was just batting it around with me.)

I like the Padme character better and better though, which is what gives this growing sense of dread for what will come of the decision she made. And that's the mark of a story that at least that far is working for me: it has me involved and, to some degree, caring.

We're going to a larger screen, better sound, this afternoon!

Dan

Steve's taking Matthew to see it again for the final time in about half an hour. Then that's IT! No more till the DVD comes out and then he can hope Grandma will buy it for him!

Hmm, well I don't like her at all. I think her and Vader-wannabe deserve each other. I think she should have been an interesting decision - I can even make her interesting in my mind if I want to - but Lucas just doesn't make me care for her. Actually I don't think I cared what happened to any of them. How different from the first time I watched Empire Strikes Back, when I got so worked up over Han being frozen... Lucas is kinda insane, I think.

Thanks for the info!

OCTOBER: LOTR: Three vol edition illustrated by Alan Lee Boxed Set - May have to buy this one! - hair

I've seen this in the shops a few years back, they must be a reprinting it. It's amazing, the books are hardback, A4 size, and every tenth page or so is a full color plate with a beautiful illustration by Alan Lee ( even though I prefer John Howe ). The three books are in a slide in open front case type of thing. Looks like an heirloom, the kind of thing you'd look forward to giving to your grandkids one day. The price was about $100 when I saw it last a few years back.

Did you hear that the New Line top brass flew over to New Zealand to watch a rough-cut of The Two Towers (sans music and some digital fx) recently. The word is that they loved it and the general impression was that it was even better than Fellowship of the Ring!

I will be looking for that set.... perhaps it would make good subject matter for Christmas hinting since I will be snapping up the extended DVD before it could be considered a good present idea!

New thread just posted by sorcery. Heady and long article. Wore me out. Check it out all, and if you have the energy, we can talk about it! Pinged ecurbh... Will let him ping the ringers if he shows up at all with all this overtime he is working. Penny, don't you have an old copy of his ping list? I hate to use the Green Dragon list for anything but Green Dragon posts.

Both rings were round, and there the resemblance ceases: Tolkien, Wagner, Nationalism, and Modernity

I fixed a typo in sorcery's title...

Not only did I see that story, but the night before I saw it I had a "dream" where I got to see a special preview, but had to promise Peter Jackson to never leak what I had seen! Coincidence? - Or vision?

Hehe...
Hey, do you know about the (wink, wink) big shocker in The Two Towers regarding Saruman? The one thats going to have Tolkien purists up the walls all over again?

Is it the Wizard-Kabob spy photo? Or something else? Not sure! Do tell! - And post it if you know where it is. Haven't seen it in awhile and it would take some sleuthing to find it again.

We have only briefly gotten in minor tizzes over the rumored changes to come. Nothing heated like the "Do Balrogs have wings?" or Tom Bombadil stuff. I guess we don't know enough yet, except about the vague rumor that the scouring of the Shire is either different or eliminated, and we really can't argue about that very well until next year!
