I think I've mentioned that my wife was never that big of a Tolkien buff. About 2 days ago she picked up FOTR and began reading it. She is really enjoying it and is up to the Barrow-Downs already. I think she's been converted. ;^)

We will give her a warm welcome and some seed cakes if she should come! - Does she have a FR login already? - What is it?

No, she doesn't. She doesn't understand why I like hanging out at FR. She is very conservative, like the rest of us, but doesn't want to get aggravated by having to read about liberal stupidity.

Just a quick prayer request for y'all. There is a forest fire encroaching on my parents house. I got a message this morning that they are OK, but are only a few miles from areas that are being evacuated, and are understandably nervous. (Here are some photos.)

We're back!

It was pretty much what I expected. Started tying up some loose ends, getting ready to tie the two sets of movies together. That's what I liked best, because I really liked the old Star Wars...mainly the first one.

"Some of it was cutsey", for the little kids. "Some of it was slightly racey", for the teenagers I guess. I admit I got sad during the "some of it that was sad" part. I laughed at it quite a bit, sometimes it seemed almost like a Star Wars spoof! At one time, Obi Wan says something like "Honestly, Anakin, you're going to be the death of me!" and I just roared.

Matthew enjoyed it, although he seemed confused at times. I'm glad I saw it on the "big screen", but I didn't like it enough to see it again.

I certainly pray your folks are OK and their home is not damaged... And also for you, because I am sure you are worrying. I have been to Prescott, and it is beautiful country. We have family friends there. Keep us posted...

Well at least you enjoyed the experience of it once! Still waiting for reviews from the die hards here at FR... But been to busy to look recently. Let me know if you see some start to come in.

Lifting your parents up in my prayers right now. We were in AZ in 2000; stayed in Sedona, and there was a small brush fire at the State Park nearby with the natural water slide, I can't remember the name of it right now. And we saw a big one going and coming on a day trip to the Grand Canyon. That year there were lots of them because it had been very dry.

Thanks for the prayers. This is going to be a rough fire season, as the year has been one of the driest on record!

I have been to Slide Rock many times. It used to be a simple roadside pulloff, that has now been turned into a full-fledged State Park with parking lots, restrooms, concessions, etc. Not quite the same.

At one time, Obi Wan says something like "Honestly, Anakin, you're going to be the death of me!" and I just roared.

I laughed at that part too, but how did you like the 'Jedi duel' between the Duke and Yoda? I leaned over to my daughter (the OTHER Tolkien geek in the family) and said "It's the Wizard duel from FoTR"!! And it even had Saruman (in another guise of course!)

I did enjoy it, especially seeing 'Uncle Owen' and his wife and realizing why Luke ended up where he did. And did you notice they played the 'Luke' theme from 'Star Wars' when at the moisture farm? And they also played the Darth Maul theme at one point for Anakin, then later brought in the Darth Vader theme. Can you tell I like the music?

I did enjoy it, it was so busy and exciting it was hard to see everything. I might go to see it again at the movies, but I'll definitely catch it on DVD!

I wish they'd showed Anakin staring off into the binary sunset like they did with Luke. I thought they were going to.

Looks nasty. It's great to know that your parents are safe. Good luck! I hope it doesn't get to their home. But even if the house does go, it is just a building--not too important in the scheme of things.

Hi everyone, missed you all yesterday (still have the shakes). My prayers for ecurbh's family, and all who need them. I am not much of a moviegoer, so expect that I will wait for a few years to see AOTC.

Hello! - I am not in a hurry to see it in the theater either...

Elijah saw it at midnight...
