I didn't remember... Google is an amazing thing!... It won for music and effects, and was nominated for Picture.

Awards Star Wars Has Won

Who did get nominated last year? *scratches her head thoughtfully* Whoever they were, they weren't very memorable. The Ring overshadowed them all!

Yes, the jedis love the movie. And uhmmm...the theater probably did sell coffee...but this was a special coffee...from Quik Trip. Very good stuff for a convenience store!

I ate a ton of their popcorn, though. Routinely made myself sick on the buttered stuff! LOL You know we probably saw AOTC a dozen times in the cheap cinema.

"we probably saw AOTC a dozen times"

Don't know if I could have done that, even with buttered popcorn and my kids.

Used to like salty buttered popcorn as a kid, after freezing myself, riding the toboggan down hills in the snow, with my brothers.

Matthew went with me to see FOTR 9 of the 19 times I went. I wouldn't go see AOTC that often in the regular cinema and promised him when it came to the cheap cinema, I would take him whenever he wanted and we had time. We went a bunch! It cost a buck fifty for all three of us to go, Joshua would sit in his car booster seat and doze a lot of the time and I would spend a fortune on the popcorn because I have no self-control. LOL!

"Joshua would sit in his car booster seat and doze a lot"

I think that's what I'd have been doing, after awhile.

Ok, good movie and delicious actor, but the other nominees are quite forgettable. The pickings for this year seem rather dismal (Eminem?), but then I haven't been to that many movies. Hopefully that means TTT will walk away with them all!

So Hair, I wonder where Smeags is, do you think she's mad at us?

She had a couple great posts on the Middle East yesterday, I saved 2 of them to word documents, since I didn't want to forget what she said.

Smeagol isn't mad... I've been over in the Middle East threads debating on the whether Israel's acceptance of a Palestinian state would be the same as committing political suicide.

Been defending Benjamin Netanyahu... etc.

I haven't given any thought to who else is in the running this year yet! - I haven't really paid attention, and I probably won't be seeing any of the competition! I only saw ABM on DVD later... out of curiosity. It was a good movie, but no where near the directing challenge that FoTR was. There is an unspoken tie between Best Film and Best Director, and there shouldn't be. The best Story of the year, may not have been the best Directing achievement, but those prizes are seldom split. Maybe PJ will change that, I think he deserves a Director win, even if the films can't or don't win. I can't think of a harder film to direct than these.

Hi Smeags, glad to see you.

I particularly liked your post #898 yesterday and want to talk about it a little when I get back, but I have to run now. I also admire Netanyahu.

See everyone soon.

I guess Smeagol found bigger fish in the Middle East!

The only fella I can think of would be Dafoe's Green Goblin, but that would be for supporting actor. Not that playing a madman is all that difficult. They'll probably haul some foreign film in to sweep the Oscars... LOTR is foreign, right? *keeps her fingers crossed*

I am with your wife... I love the shade of the trees...

I like the shade too. But I am mainly concerned about 1) branches falling from the trees. We've had several fall over the dry summer and 2) the fact that I have no grass in the back and my land is washing into the neighbor's back yard.

The new neighbors are okay with it and are actually doing things to prevent the runoff into their yard. I'm trying to help too by planting a buffer.

But our previous neighbors were a different story. When hurricane Fran came through in 1996, she called and told us she feared our oak that was leaning into her yard. We eventually spent $3,000 to have trees removed that could potentially fall on her house.

When hurricane Floyd came through in 1999 (or 98?) she called and complained about the water running into her yard. Of course those six trees used to block that and in the middle of Floyd (after Dennis had parked off of the coast for two weeks), water was everywhere...

Mainly, I want a back yard I can fence in for the boys and the dog with some grass they can play in. Now that the inside is basically done (we still have some work) and the outside is done with the siding, I can work on the actual yard. I've been planting things for spring, and need to sow some grass.

I like my wooded lot. It saves a ton on airconditioning bills. After Fran came through I got some grasslike weeds growing and...well...it's green and if I keep it mowed it looks pretty good.

Aside from the opening night enthusiasm, the crowds can really be distracting.

My son and I went to the 9:30 p.m. showing of Harry Potter on Sunday night. It was definitely the geek viewing.

One guy took a cell phone call right in the middle. At least he had the courtesy to walk out. I never want to be that important...not that he was, mind you...

Yeah... that is how I have been looking at it. My horses actually do most of the mowing when I turn them out in the yard for a day, and I just have to even it out once in a while and trim the edges! They are pickier eaters than one would think. They can eat the grass right around a dandelion and leave it standing there. Dang.

... and I would either silence them with a PFFFFT!

But that's a great line in You've Got Mail when Meg Ryan and Greg Kinear are in the theater talking at the woman behind them shushes him.

He says, "What? The hotdog is singing. You need silence while the hotdog is singing?"

That argument worked. (sniff! maybe it worked too well! [looking around and not seeing a man around])

Men don't want the um...competition...

And that's all I'm gonna say about that...
