Oh we compare a lot of humans with orcs... and perhaps some of the dwarves like to use language that is vivid... Try not to read too much into that.
My view on Iraq right now is to support my President and his advisors, because I trust them. They see things I can't, and know things I don't. I don't often armchair quarterback decisions on that scale. They think Iraq, Saddam and his goals and plans are a threat to us. I will take them at their word and support them. That is what we hire them to do.
I don't think Iraq is related to 9-11 in a direct way. Only in the sense that the entire region is a mess. They have always been a mess, and likely will be for some time. Our best goal is to limit their reach wherever we can, and that includes Saddam.

I posted a whole bunch of stuff. A lot to digest.
If I was certain that Iraq was complicit in the 9/11 attacks, then I would have no qualms with deposing Saddam. In fact, I'd wonder why we hadn't already done so.
I'll go back to reading.

I am parial to kim-chee though... Well, that explains the smell thing...
To: carton253
Well, thank goodness that was a
small sample!
Go get 'em Smeags!
To: g'nad
I love the ocean too, but it was a choice... we got lakes and rivers... Lakes and rivers are good things too. I just get a little claustrophobic being more than 2-3 hours away from the ocean.
I know it's a little weird. But that's no surprise to anyone here...
To: JenB
But the point is he's insane and has weapons of mass destruction and refuses to disarm. President-God Kim Jong Il is cracked too. North Korea has nukes. What makes Iraq different?
To: Corin Stormhands
Well, that explains the smell thing...
or even better, kim chee pizza!

Mmmmm mmmmmmmmm!! Good fer what ails yuh...clears yer sinuses too...

You know, I will grant you that.... Not very Christian.... I have a hard time trying to reconcile my faith with the fact that what I feel is "Kill 'em. Kill 'em all."
No, not all Muslims are bad people (although I do thing Islam is rooted in evil...deal with it Secretary Powell).
But I'll be a little more charitable when I hear the Muslim outcry, condemning terrorism.
To: Corin Stormhands
I know it's a little weird. never questioned that... I'm considerin' the source...
btw, when is your Christmas Cantata?...
To: carton253
NO WAY! I NEVER thought you implied that at all!!
I was mourning my own self-doubts, not any implied by you. I find myself torn between my protectiveness for my kids and my protectiveness of my country.
To: John Farson
North Korea has nukes. What makes Iraq different? The likelyhood that WE would be their target.
To: g'nad
btw, when is your Christmas Cantata?... Well, it's a little more than "Cantata." It sounds pretentious when I say this, but think "Broadway extravaganza."
Let me put it this way. When the church started this ministry about 20 years ago, they paid designers from Disney to come in for three weeks to teach them how to build the sets. I've done theater for years, and I've seen numerous Broadway shows. This is as professional as anything I've seen (I can say that 'cause they were doing it before we got there). For the first two weeks in December, our church is tranformed into a Broadway theater.
We have an adult cast of 200, then a youth choir (100+) and children's choir (100+). There are about 50 technical people behind the scenes (sets, props, lighting, flying the angels, etc.), then add about 100 ushers and 20-30 parking lot attendants. Well, anyway, it's a little more than "Cantata."
That said, we open in two weeks.
We have a preview performance on December 5, and open on December 6. We do four shows on Saturday, three on Sunday. Then the next week (December 12) we have shows on Thursday, Friday, Four on Saturday and two on Sunday.
Wanna come? It's very kid friendly this year. I can see if we still can get tickets. Let me know.

Let's clear this up!
I am the one who said they will be defiant, dead Iraqis.
Then John Farson ripped it out of its context and suddenly everyone is justifying why that was said.
Now, I'll put it back in conflict.
I posted this the day the Iraqi Parliament voted to deny the UN Inspectors access to Iraq. They (the Parliment... for those who get lost using pronouns) said that they (again, the Iraqi parliament)were being defiant.
I posted the vote and commented that they (the Iraqi Parliament) are about to be dead, defiant Iraqis. I make no apology for that statement. Even if people ban me to Tooks Corner.
The context did not state the Iraqi people. It stated the leadership who are blindly leading Iraq into war.
Hope that clears it up.
To: carton253
I make no apology for that statement. None is needed.
To: carton253
Sorry, I didn't see your post. Another post quoted you with no context other than what I quoted... along with "that has a lovely ring to it, doesn't it?" I'll go find it if you like.

John... these are the cheers for our team that are expected when one has chosen sides. Any one of us could have said that in the hope and expectation of victory.
We all understand now that you aren't comfortable with this war. Some of us disagree on that, and each of us probably has at least one view that different on something within here... but yet we remain friends. We should not fight this one to the death. We don't have to agree on everything.
We usually have pretty good instincts in the Hobbit Hole to stop short of fighting words, but I guess not always, and although you are an old member of our group, because you were gone so long you are again new, and we are still figuring each other out. This isn't where we go to argue issues, it is where we come to relax with friends. Sometimes we voice or test our philosophies too, our discussion covers everything, but we test our philosophies here within the safety of friends who will like us no matter what crazy idea we have. We have that way remained, caring more about each other than any issue. So we can move on without having to have anyone win or lose. I would hate to have anyone win or lose here. You don't have to like the war to be here. We can be careful in our discussion of it.

Did you guys know that in the Unexpurgated Red Book of Westmarch, Sauron is known as Sauron al-Hussein?

I've said far more than I intended. My apologies for cluttering up the place.
To: John Farson; HairOfTheDog; All
Sheesh! Rush gives FR a BRIEF mention on his show and the place practically shuts down.
Anybody else have problems on FR during the last half-hour or so?

Your posts are not clutter John! I just worry when I see friends gettin' terse with each other!
Good talk is welcome! - We are all political creatures here... but we all need to be nice to each other first... We have a movie coming!
