"We found a 'Crusader' sword"

"Yeaghhh! Let's hunt some Orc!"

But it sounds like they had great costumes...Halloween's lots of fun IMO, and besides, it's an ancient holiday, pre Christian probably, which makes it spooky.

Used to have fun making our kids costumes when they were still little...they loved it, especially my daughter, who still loves all holidays and is just a generally happy character who loves life.

We live on the end of a cul de sac off a street with no sidewalks also.

When I get a minute I'll take the virtual tour of the 1900 house, thanks, ksen, looks really fascinating. How did you find it?

Also, it looks a little like the shotgun shacks in N.O., probably they're from the same time period.

Hullo! Did I get everybody we've got around tonight?

I am back from meeting and the ponies are fed...

We are talking about "To Halloween or not to Halloween", Vampires, time travel and NaMoWhatever! Right?

Well, I am eating the first of the five candy bars I bought for my possible friends... Because I talked to one friend who I know is NOT coming by to trick or treat cuz they are doing something at their school...

Her daughter goes to Catholic school, so I asked if they had any rules about costumes, and she said there was no rule about dressing up like witches, but not violence, no fake blood or pretend weapons. I think it would be a shame to be a hobbit and not be able to carry Sting. And I suppose the ring wouldn't count as a weapon... Fools. They don't know what real trouble is! Her daughter is going as a horse. (Hair approves of the daughter's taste!)

I read Interview with a Vampire (Ann Rice) and liked it... but didn't carry on with the series.

Hi, Hair,
glad you're back

I just watched the trailer on the official site, full screen, for the first time.

I think I need 2J to fetch my meds.

Meanwhile, I've eaten enough chocolate for awhile, hope I'll be able to sleep tonight.

Hi, gang! Well...I put in some applications, but none of the places I visited had any positions currently open. Sigh! We'll see, though. It's early days yet.

Anyone want to chat for a bit? I'm wasting time until NaNoMoWri starts...

I had something really nice happen to me the other night at the fishing club Halloween party.

My Mom (and Dad, too) has been gone for nearly 10 years, I know your mother is gone awhile too.

But, one of the guys, (the retired physics professor), Shep, who only knows me, had never met anyone else in my family, had somehow met a guy (at Outdoor World, a sporting goods store) that had, in times gone by, known my whole family.

And he said to me, "Barry, I met this guy, George, that knows you from the islands, and knew your mom, from the old days."

And with a funny expression on his face, Shep said "And he says that your mom was an angel."

It really touched me. This was just out of the blue. Here were two guys, talking in a tackle shop, when I wasn't around, saying nice stuff about my mother, just between themselves, nearly a decade after her death.

I keep replaying it in my mind :-)

Why did you wait till now to watch that trailer? - That is a wonderful trailer!

I didn't get a rush from the first trailer they put out. The timing or the editing wasn't quite right. But this last one gets my heart pumping. I think I will have to go watch it again!

Hi, Rosie, keep your face out there, then they'll remember you, and you'll be at the top of everyone's list.

I love meeting people who knew my mom. The people who remember her are irreplaceable to me, because for everyone else, she is a story of mine, not a person. And I mourn their loss when her friends and my other extended family have died, mourned it on two levels, because I am also losing the people who knew her and could remember her when I ran into them in town. "For none now live who remember it." Those are wonderful moments when you meet someone who does.

I can't believe you haven't read any of his books! They are all connected with horse racing somehow. Either the protagonist IS a jockey, HAD BEEN a jockey, is a caterer to the racetrack, an insurance agent for horses, whatever! Even though they are somewhat formulaic, they are always interesting!

Your local library probably has some of the books. I think 'Dead Cert' is the first, but there are only two about the same character, Sid Halley, a former jockey turned private investigator. The others are about other folks. You don't have to read them in any particular order.

"And he says that your mom was an angel."

I bet that made you just as proud of your Mama as you can possibly be!
