Yes; there was a big difference between book 4 and the rest of the books, and they're supposed to get darker yet.........

I watched JK Rowlings on 60 Minutes... she has stated that there will be more deaths, and one of the lead characters will also die. (She's not stating which one)
Her purpose for doing this is to show that evil is just that... evil.

Fortunately, the boys never really got too attached to them. They lived in the window sill of the kitchen and I took care of them, thinking they were a little delicate for the boys just yet. We've had them for forever and they never turned into frogs! I tried to follow the directions that came with them and as far as I know I did everything right...I don't know what happened. I feel a little bad about it.
I hate for anything to suffer and I hope I didn't cause these creatures to. Once, I captured a huge black widow out in the yard with the intent of preserving it as a specimen for the boys. Pouring alcohol on it was supposed to kill it immediately, according to my entomologist friend. Well, I poured the alcohol on it and it swam around frantically for what seemed like forever. Probably just a minute or two at the most. I was mortified. Then I found out my alcohol wasn't 70% like normal, but cheap 50% and that's probably why it didn't kill it right away. I felt really bad about that.

Next time use whiskey - may not kill him faster, but may kill him better.
The kitchen window may actually be to blame. Tadpoles live in dark and COOL water. We could never get them to turn into frogs inside either, but they grew up fine outside. Used to capture them from the neighborhood pond. I think it is too warm (and maybe too bright) in the house. Try it again outside with local native frogs, and then the frogs can hop away when they are ready. Pond building experiment!

Speaking of Lembas, My mother bought me a package of cookies that I thought might be something like it. They are called "McVitie's" and they claim to be the original digestive, whatever that means. Anyway, they are wafers...sweet, crumbly, light brown on the outside, cream colored on the inside. They are from the UK. They are a "wheatmeal biscuit".

McVitie's...I'll keep that in mind. I'll be making a trip to a snooty specialty foods store in search of cracked wheat and rabbit so I'll keep a lookout for McVitie's too!

The funniest thing just happened! The boys and I were watching the cave troll trying to get Frodo in Moria and Joshua was getting a little anxious about it (he's friends with the cave troll we own, you know). I told him "It's just because that cave troll lived with orcs so long, it doesn't know how to behave. If it lived with us, it would be a good cave troll". Then Matthew said "If that cave troll lived with us, I bet it would make some really big pancakes!"

Good afternoon! That's a funny story... weather was lovely this morning and now it looks like rain. Too bad. I'll be in most of the afternoon. I hope your son doesn't bring home a cave troll and ask to keep it as a pet!

Hi LCS! You've been away for a while - out in the wide world? It's dangerous out there, glad to see you've made it back ok!

"Mom...can I keep him? He followed me home!"

"If that cave troll lived with us, I bet it would make some really big pancakes!" Have you priced Purina Cave Troll Chow lately?

It's dangerous out there, glad to see you've made it back ok!Good to be back. Actually I have been lurking here, but had no inspiration to join in. Things have been a bit hectic at the Sulla household, and the world seems to be getting somewhat calmer, strictly temporarily, I am sure.
To: Lucius Cornelius Sulla
Well, we're always glad to have you around. Hopefully the weather will be spring-y soon (that tends to help with depression) and maybe we'll get some good news for a change. And hey, if things get too depressed, remember - just over six months until Two Towers!

My daughter's 19, in college and very grown up, so I guess I don't have to worry either. 'Course, as a parent, one never stops worrying...
To: JenB
Hopefully the weather will be spring-y soonI doubt it. The highs are going into the low 90's now here in Florida, and the lows rarely get below the middle 60's. Down here we can expect this to continue without interruption until October at the earliest!
To: Lucius Cornelius Sulla
Oh! You're in Florida... I thought you were in Nebraska for some reason. Well, then, I wish I was where you are! Our weather won't settle on the season yet, we're getting days with sun and then storms and then sun again - it's driving me nuts. I can't figure out what to wear in the mornings!

Hullo folks! - Back from meeting. It sure is a nice day here! - If I wasn't supposed to be working really hard I would be tempted to give pony baths or go buy some Spring flowers!
To: HairOfTheDog
If you were here you would have no need to bathe the ponies. I think we've had an inch of rain at least in the last two hours. I just hope it stops before class tonight.
