I took my father-in-law this past Saturday. He enjoyed the movie. He has never really been a fantasy movie/book kind of guy, the closest he comes is the original Star Trek episodes. Last night he picked up my copy of FOTR and started reading it, which REALLY surprised me. We may have a new convert before too long. ;^)
The closest theatre still playing FOTR is about 35 miles away. It is an AMC theatre with 24 screens. They are building one of those about 8 miles away from my house. It will be open in either May or June, plenty of time before the TT comes out in December. It will be nice to stay local to see the TT five months after it has been released. ;^)

Just the music I need this morning. Can't hang around, but I'll check back in.

OK - I just opened the Green Dragon - Rivendell... I have to go to Seattle today, so I hope you have a little bit of fun without me, and I will join in later on if I can!

Haven't seen Dan in awhile, maybe if I do a flitty 00 dance he will come back! Hm? Eh? I sensed a "litting"in the Force.... (c;
Actually, I have a good excuse. I was out of town (and away from computer) from Friday afternoon until five minutes ago.
In my LOTR reading with my wife last night, saw the line about being called home by the silver trumpets of Gondor, in a bit of ROTK narrative. It's amazing to us how much of the movie dialogue is straight from the book, albeit some of it transposed from context or speaker.

Speaking of music...I found out that what I thought was a flute that is played during the "Concerning Hobbits" theme is really
a whistle! And that they are reasonably priced! I've got to get me one of these!

Only $9.95...I could really get the cat's ears twitching with one of those!

I get to go see it in the theater tomorrow! :) The couple I'm going with (irishtenor and his wife) have only seen it once, so I can't wait to hear their impressions after they've seen it that magical second time. ;)
I can't even remember what it was like to watch it not know every line, every scene before it goes by, lol...

Here's a couple of them for you:

You can go to the main image index page to see where all the updated photos are: LOTR Image Gallery

And from what I've been reading, you can get one for even less...5-6$! And the quality isn't the worse because of it...some of the most famous whistle players use cheap plastic whistles!
My favorite episode of Star Trek NG was when Picard is mentally abducted and thinks he's on another planet for years and years and he has a gift of a whistle that he gradually learns to play rather well. Only to find out the planet died long ago and he was just a way for them to be remembered. He ended up with the whistle to remind him of the "life" he had on the planet.
I didn't know it was a whistle, I though it was some sort of flute.

LOL! Look at Frodo in the back of that first picture...looking like "What is going on over there?"

My favorite episode of Star Trek NG was when Picard is mentally abducted and thinks he's on another planet for years and years and he has a gift of a whistle that he gradually learns to play rather well. Saw that one again this weekend. One of my favorites too. Loved the fact that the flute showed up in a later episode.

Look at Frodo in the back of that first picture...looking like "What is going on over there?" Or maybe..."Where's my apple?"

Thanks, Penny! I'll be adding to my picture gallery soon.
To: Corin Stormhands
That's true, I remember seeing it in another episode, maybe two. I always liked NG, but none of the other Star Trek stuff. If you want to learn a little more about that whistle that Picard is playing...go
here and read mystery #2. Pretty interesting.

Cool! I've wondered about that flute thingie myself. Actually it's the tune that I like the most - somehow it's haunting. I've seen that episode about twice all the way through but as Corin remarked, it was on this evening... I heard this melody upstairs and said, 'oh, it's that episode"! Didn't watch it because the story itself is kinda boring but that tune...

Well, now it just makes me sick that I missed that episode! Argh! I worked in the yard till dark, then bathed the boys in time to see the end of X-Files, then hung out here a while, then went to bed. I really love that particular episode.

Hi Jen,
Math class, huh? No fun! All the other working hobbits must have been too busy to freep today. I'm home now waiting for dinner to cook and watching Gilligan. I was going to start bashing Picard and NG until you showed up! :D
To: Overtaxed
Yeah and a so not good math class... I did well on the test but he graded hard and if I don't get a C on the final, I flunk... Praying that he curves massively. Not that it'll help that much. I hate this math. An Elf with a shining sword should smite this guy righteously!
