Hmm, maybe we need to come up with a "Men are Weak" icon.... ;)

Having trouble logging into the chat room, so the heck with it!

Hmm, maybe we need to come up with a "Men are Weak" icon.... ;) A little picture of Elrond's scowling face?
To: Overtaxed
A little picture of Elrond's scowling face? That would work! Or maybe a smirking Boromir?
To: Wordsmith
I agree with most of that stuff, still adore the movie
To: Bear_in_RoseBear
Oooh, I like that. Not sure those who lust after the Lord Elessar would agree though! ;)
To: Sam Cree
I think your guy is seeing the problems accurately, but they are much less extreme than he thinks. You have a choice whether to let them work you up or just enjoy the good you find, IMHO.
To: Wordsmith
hehehe, I'm going to get into trou-ble! ;)
To: Wordsmith
I meant to address #67 to you, sorry Wordsmith.

For the group's amusement... a proposed "Men are Weak" icon:

ElfBash!I don't consider it bashing. Elrond had every reason to be pissed, since the intervening 3000 years could have been a golden age for both humans and elves. He's seen more grief than any human could comprehend. He also has the best idea of the dire consequences of failure this time.
And I don't think Jackson is too off-base with his treatment of Aragorn. He's also telling a story for people who may have never heard of Tolkien, and don't know what to expect. Jackson has only about 12 hours (assuming extra materials in later DVDs) to tell the story, and there have to be some changes and alterations somewhere. Actually, I can't think of another book that has been made into a film so faithfully. It's not perfect, but who can claim to do better?

I agree with you, winmag....
I have heard others say the same thing about Aragorn being too self-doubting, but I read a lot of doubt and uncertainty in Aragorn when I read the books.... it is a transformation indeed, from Ranger to King in six hours.....
I think Aragorn was very well done so far.... a competent enough leader, but untested, unsure...
And I see a change already in him in the trailer for TTT...
And I always liked Elrond... I found him to be wise and serious... it is a serious time. Not a jolly elf time.
Call me a PJ-Bot.... I love every judgment he made,
(except Galadriel the ghoul!) But one has to take a potty break at some point, doesn't one?
To: Bear_in_RoseBear
Love it Bear.... You may put me on the "Men are Weak" Ping list!

Welcome to the Hobbit Hole!
I agree with you, so far Peter Jackson has done a wonderful job of adapting the book to the movie. But, I think even those of us who like the adaptation have favorite little things from the book that we think didn't get translated quite right... ;)
To: HairOfTheDog
hehe, I liked Galadriel's little episode!
To: Bear_in_RoseBear
Galadriel's great!
To: HairOfTheDog; 300winmag
Yeah, that's true, it's one of the most successful translations from book to movie ever. The guy needs to lighten up.
To: Overtaxed; Bear_in_RoseBear
Yeah, I thought Aragorn was too self-doubting....but I don't have a neat Aragorn bash icon ready! Well, I like Bear's icon. But for Aragorn I was thinking something like:

Morning All. Sorry I missed the chat/view.
There's been another shooting. This time in Manassas (SW of DC). A man was shot at a gas station. They haven't confirmed the link yet.
When they catch this guy(s) I hope they have him drawn and quartered on Pay-Per-View...
