I own this:

Mom bought it for me, with much protestation. (She was NOT a Tom Bombadil fan, and used to make the kids read that part on their own when reading the books aloud...)
To: HairOfTheDog; g'nad
The pointy end, right? Yes, but you could also whack him with the flat side...
To: RosieCotton
Is it good? - I haven't read it! And I call myself a river-daughter!
To: Corin Stormhands
I need these suggestions! Any other tips for me?
To: RosieCotton
Does it explain why he's such a doof?
To: HairOfTheDog
I'll have to locate it again. I believe it's mostly a duplicate of Tom's role in the book, but I think there were some additional poems and such. It's somewhere in my basement, so it may take me awhile to find it!
I'll let you know!

Remember? We are supposed to sing this....
Ho! Tom Bombadil, Tom Bombadillo!
By water, wood and hill, by the reed and willow,
By fire, sun and moon, harken now and hear us!
Come, Tom Bombadil, for our need is near us!

Does it explain why he's such a doof? Now, now...he's a kind, jolly doof - and he and Goldberry put on a great feast! I can't help liking him, nutty as he is!
To: HairOfTheDog
Any other tips for me? Well, I'm more of an axe man myself...
To: RosieCotton
nutty as he is! Nutty as a squirrel!
To: 2Jedismom
doof? Awwww thats hard 2J! I love Tom Bombadil!
Old Tom Bombadil is a merry fellow;
Bright blue his jacket is, and his boots are yellow.
Hey! Come merry dol! derry dol! My darling!
Light goes the weather-wind and the feathered starling.
Down along under Hill, shining in the sunlight,
Waiting on the doorstep for the cold starlight,
There my pretty lady is. River-womans daughter,
Slender as the willow-wand, clearer than the water.
Old Tom Bombadil water-lilies bringing
Comes hopping home again. Can you hear him singing?
Hey! Come merry dol! deny dol! and merry-o,
Goldberry, Goldberry, merry yellow berry-o!
Poor old Willow-man, you tuck your roots away!
Toms in a hurry now. Evening will follow day.
Toms going home again water-lilies bringing.
Hey! Come derry dol! Can you hear me singing?
I had an errand there: gathering water-lilies,
green leaves and lilies white to please my pretty lady,
the last ere the years end to keep them from the winter,
to flower by her pretty feet tilt the snows are melted.
Each year at summers end I go to find them for her,
in a wide pool, deep and clear, far down Withywindle;
there they open first in spring and there they linger latest.
By that pool long ago I found the River-daughter,
fair young Goldberry sitting in the rushes.
Sweet was her singing then, and her heart was beating!

That sounds like the kind of names I heard back when my hubby was playing gigs with his band(s). My hubby's band evolved through several names" "Talisman", "The Fallen", "Uncle Mortimer", "Contraption", etc.
To: RMDupree; Corin Stormhands
The [very] few times we've played in public, we've called ourselves "Down Cellar". That's how Vermontah's say "down in the basement", which is generally where we end up playing, so it works! ;-)

You know, I can't help tapping my foot in time every time I read ol Tom's poems/songs!
I can almost imagine his hopping along, almost flitty but not quite, and jumping around with happiness and joy - but not in a "Spongebob" way.
Almost like a Willy Wonka type character.

To: RMDupree
"Uncle Mortimer"?
To: RosieCotton; Corin Stormhands
That's a good name. The best names are ones with stories behind them.
Why don't they call themselves the "Barrow-wights", Corin? :)
To: RMDupree
I am a great fan of Bombadil... Yes, something like Willy Wonka, And something like Mr. Edwards from Little House on the Prairie!
To: Bear_in_RoseBear
I know - terrible, isn't it?
They had a song called Uncle Mortimer and, by that time, they had gone through 3 name changes and didn't want to think too hard, so that's where that came in.
I loved Talisman and always say they should have kept it. It was a lucky charm for them! Decent paying gigs, good crowds, free beer....
To: RosieCotton
I'm probably starting too late - we had a hard frost this morning...had to scrape my windshield before work. We're supposed to have frost tonight here in Central MA. I've got some bulbs to plant as well!
