Well, to quote Eliza Doolittle "Ah'm a gud guhl, Ah am!"
P'raps a tad outspoken about my opinions.

Sounds like a sweet story! Is it getting near Christmas time again??
Ugh!

Hmmm. When we "converted" my parents, eventually, had us all baptized - only I was old enough that it was "adult baptism" - the other guys had the infant baptism. I think in the PCA, baptism is really intended as a sign. We emphasize that the act does nothing to wash away sins in and of itself. But you can't join without being baptized.
Joining the church is really the "big thing". We have to go through classes and give a confession - not just up in front of the church with everyone saying "oh, how nice", but in front of a special Session meeting. And the elders quiz you. That wasn't really fun, because when I did it, Dad was on Session.
Oh, where was I? Gifts. That's just rude. I've never heard of baptism gifts in the first place, and obligatory gifts? If I were you I wouldn't go.
P.S - you don't decide to be Presbyterian, it's decided for you ;-)

Do you have a brand of tea you recommend? I just usually drink Lipton.

I didn't go, but my parents did and took my gifts with them. I got a couple of little photo albums, the front being like a brushed silver and had an embossed cross on the front and the album was like inclosed in a velvet box. So when you opened the silver front cover, there were places for other pictures...hard to explain.
They loved them.
Steve said they give gifts in the Lutheran church when a person is baptised. He actually tried to give someone a monetary gift when they were baptised at a baptist church once and everyone got a real kick out of it. And when he made his public profession back in 1995, after he was baptised he jokingly said "Ok, where's my gifts".

But if I'm not careful, he'll end up like g'nad.... What? You don't want your son to grow up to be a steely-eyed killer...indifferent to pain and hardship?...That disregards self for the mission and his comrades?...You say it like it's a bad thing...
One must first be stripped clean
Unhappiness does not arise from how things are.
Rather from a difference in the way things are the way we believe they should be...
You within yourself.
There is no one else to rely on, and when the self is exhausted,
no one to lift you up...
But finally we wake to realize there is only one way to get through this
and that is together...
Once you've walked through fire and survived
little else can burn...
