Are you done with your OT, OT? Hope so! It is Saturday, you should relax a little.... oh, dear the potatoes are burning. I can't believe that there are so many women who do this sort of thing every day - maybe it's a job you grow into, but give me a computer any day.

Or a servant-wench? hehehe.
To: JenB
LOL my OT got done earlier than I expected. Hang in there with those potatoes!
To: JenB
How on earth do you burn boiled potatos? - I hope you do marry into aristocracy!
To: HairOfTheDog
Too much palantir watching, I expect. :)

I agree with you on trying to have the conversation to be more than about seed cakes, wings, and pints.
And obviously you did read my posts and I did not read yours very thoroughly...
To say that Boromir fell off the wagon in a heartbeat negates why he came to Rivendell in the first place.
He came looking for help in the defense of Gondor. He thought he was entitled to that help because only Rohan was helping in the defense of Middle Earth against Mordor.
When he saw the ring, his eyes glinted so Tolkien wrote...
To me (and everything here is opinion so there really is no right or wrong as in a test... if you believe Boromir fell off the wagon, that's fine...) Boromir came looking for help, and the moment the ring appeared and was identified as the one ring... Boromir understood it to be a weapon.

hehehehe

hehehe - just read your "I don't care for him" statement in the Dragon. Carton, always one to trash the innocent, and staunchly defend the flawed, sinful and angst-ridden.
To: JenB
Do you have a copy of
Unfinished Tales of Númenor and Middle-earth? In Moria Aragorn says:
He [Gandalf] is surer of finding the way home in a blind night than the cats of Queen Beruthiel.
The
Encyclopedia of Arda says:
The dark and mournful Queen to Tarannon Falastur, the twelfth King of Gondor. She owned ten marvellous and magical cats, that she set to spy on the doings of the people of Gondor. Her scheming was her undoing, though, since her husband set her adrift on the Great Sea, with only her cats for company. She sailed into the far south and was never heard of again, but she and her mysterious cats lived on in legend for millennia. (Note that these details come from an unpublished manuscript quoted by Christopher Tolkien in Unfinished Tales of Númenor and Middle-earth, and so their canonicity is not certain.)
I just wondered what Queen Beruthiel's "last straw" and if
Unfinished Tales has the answer.
You think of these things when you're trying to read Tolkien with a cat clawing your head!

Carton, always one to trash the innocent, and staunchly defend the flawed, sinful and angst-ridden. Are you picking on poor Smeagol again? You big mean bully! :)
To: Overtaxed
No actually I was picking on carton! I never forget Bombadil bashers, or elf-bashers for that matter.
To: HairOfTheDog
Hehehe! But what's wrong with elves liking cheese?
To: Overtaxed
:~D
I am going to go nap for awhile. As caffienated as I am, I am still feeling sleepy. I think I heard my trees whispering lullabies earlier, maybe that is it.
To: HairOfTheDog
lullabies? - is that like sleepy wallabies?
lullabyes? [yawn] The english language needs rules that stick.
To: Overtaxed
Nah, that's all we know about Queen Beruthiel. I have this idea that the King got so tired of cats everywhere that he just had to banish his wife, spies or not.
Oh, and as how to burn potatoes - you just forget them as they boil away, while you're posting replies to Tolkien threads! But I saved them, and the whole dinner was a success. Now I can either do this or try to study... maybe I'll do both.

Thank you; that helps me out of my math depression nicely. I just can't get tired of looking at that face!
