MIne?

I haven't read Harry Potter, and most people I know who HAVE read them have said that they are mildly silly but pretty harmless - my brother said they have much more in common with Roald Dahl (ever read Matilda or The BFG?) than with Lewis or Tolkien.

Very interesting post. I agree with it for the most part, but would like to see more to get context. Can you provide a link for this?
I have read the first Potter book only (and seen the movie), and feel it is completely "light weight" in comparison with Tolkien and C.S. Lewis. Rowling's writing is not much more than amusing fluff by comparison to the raw meat of Tolkien/Lewis. There is no depth or breadth of character or history in her work, as there is in Tolkien, especially. But, OTOH, I am not one of those Christians who feels J.K. Rowling is "of the devil", and that children will be harmed by reading the Potter fantasy.... It's cotton candy for the brain, briefly sweet with no nutritional value. Tolkien on the other hand....very nutritious, over and over....
Later...must work one last push before relaxing....

so I'm not sure if I'd get full use out of a changer!I like it because I can pull up the list on my PC and choose which CD I want to hear. The boys and SuziQ got it for me for my birthday last year. Hubby was disappointed that the software that came with it was a piece of crap! I'm supposed to be able to program 'random' play within groups of CDs that I've arranged, i.e. within my Christmas CDs or my classical cd, or my celtic/folk cd, etc. For some reason it doesn't work, and the last time he checked, Kenwood hadn't updated it. But I love having all the CDs in one place so I don't have to keep loading and re-loading.

Shoot! I didn't notice we were that close to a 'Precious'!!
To: RosieCotton
my brother said they have much more in common with Roald Dahl (ever read Matilda Sir SuziQ started reading "Matilda" to the kids several years ago and stopped after the first chapter. He said he didn't want to read something to them with such OBNOXIOUS people in it!
We saw the movie; the adults are for the most part just PIGS! I guess he didn't want the kids imprinted with the idea that grown-ups were SO bad.

My own.....my Preciousssss!

I was busy discussing Green Linnet purchases with my Dad...he called and wanted to know which I had and which I was getting so we could divide things up. This after I called him earlier to let him know about the sale. I said, "Green Linnet has a sale on CDs - they're all seven bucks!" Dad said, "ALL of them?" I said, "Yeah, AND free shipping!"...long pause...then Dad said, "Is this the devil calling?"
I'm good at tempting...

Good afternoon everyone...
Hope everyone is having a good day. Mine is going ok... although it's officially a "day off", I'm finding myself more busy than I have been almost all week. Oh well...
Take care all!

That's nice...loverly imagery. Thank you SO much for SHARING! No problem...anytime...sorry....
To: g'nad
That's a beautiful rose! Thank you...I have now ridded my mind of the crow-torn woodpecker imagery...
To: RosieCotton
Sorry to such a heathen...I honestly didn't think I'd gross anyone out...never occured to me...I guess I'm just numb to that kinda stuff...guess it comes with the territory...so it's prob'ly not a good idea to share my stories that I think are gross, huh?...
To: g'nad
LOL, it didn't bother me, honestly. :)
To: g'nad
Oh, I'm mostly just teasing you. I'm a country gal (seen lots o' animal blood, guts and violence...), plus have five brothers, so I've heard and seen plenty of gross stuff. But I had to pick on you. ;-)

Did you forget to walk the dog before you went in the vets? No I did not forget! It's just that this diet food they put him on makes him, um, extra productive. But I figure since the diet they put him on also made him grumpy that they deserved it.

Oh, I'm mostly just teasing you.? I'm such a rube...Bear, I'm sure you were chucklin'...

It is freezing in my house but I am telling myself that it is not yet fall. You just don't handle this weather change thing well do you Hair? Just a few short weeks ago you were melting at, what? 85 degrees?
To: g'nad; RosieCotton; Corin Stormhands
Bear, I'm sure you were chucklin'Well, yeah, but I'm in a good mood today, so everything's making me chuckle. Especially Corin's story of his visit to the vet....
Does anyone want to hear the story of how I one time almost ran over a flock of crows and a bald eagle?
